Salt Pond Breakers win by 30 runs!
Salt Pond Breakers pulled out a clinical bowling display to restrict the Fort Charlotte Strikers to 68 off their 10 overs. FCS started off brightly but quickly ran out of steam, with Scott in particular, struggling to make contact. Thereafter, they could never muster the requisite momentum to mount a sustained assault on SPB's total.
SPB, meanwhile, stuck to their bowling guns and were full value for the result. Sunil Ambris shone with the ball as well as he took a couple of wickets in his allotted quote of two overs. Elsewhere, Johnson also gave a good account of himself whereas Strough wasn't too shabby either.
...
9.6 Wesrick Strough to Ray Jordan, SIX! A maximum to end the innings, but that's only a consolation hit. Short and outside off, slapped by Jordan over long on for a maximum.
...
9.5 Wesrick Strough to Ray Jordan, very slow ball from Strough, Jordan is committed too early into the shot and fails to make contact. A delivery after being beaten by the pace of the ball, Jordan is deceived by the lack of it. Top bowling.
...
9.4 Wesrick Strough to Ray Jordan, Jordan looks for a cute scoop but is beaten by the pace on the ball. Jordan trying to pull out all possible tricks before FCS succumb to a defeat.
...
9.3 Wesrick Strough to Ray Jordan, full and into the pads, Jordan's attempt to make room yet again is in vain. Strough followed the batsman expertly there and caught him completely unawares.
...
9.2 Wesrick Strough to Ray Jordan, eked away to mid-wicket for a brace.
...
9.1 Wesrick Strough to Ray Jordan, pacy and angling into the pads, Jordan makes room for himself but misses the ball.
...
Johnson has been mixing up his pace well and he has also kept the batsmen guessing with his lines and lengths.
...
8.6 Delorn Johnson to Renrick Williams, OUT! Williams has holed out! Full ball on the stumps, Williams lifts it high up in the air and the man at covers runs in to take an easy catch. Johnson took the pace off that delivery ever so slightly and Williams was nearly a day early into his shot. And, just like that, another FCS batsman bites the dust!
...
8.5 Delorn Johnson to Renrick Williams, length ball angling away from Williams who looks to walk across his stumps and sends it over mid-wicket. He only connects with thin air.
...
8.4 Delorn Johnson to Jaheil Walters, short ball pulled away to deep mid-wicket for a single.
...
8.3 Delorn Johnson to Renrick Williams, length ball dragged down the mid-wicket for a single.
...
8.2 Delorn Johnson to Renrick Williams, Whoops! A waist-high no ball from Johnson!
...
8.2 Delorn Johnson to Renrick Williams, yorker length delivery outside off, Williams digs it out back to the bowler.
...
8.1 Delorn Johnson to Renrick Williams, full and angling away from Williams who misses the line of the ball.
...
FCS now need 32 runs in the final two overs and seems highly improbable, although you never say never in the Vincy Premier League!
...
7.6 Wesrick Strough to Jaheil Walters, Dropped! Short and outside off, Walter looks to go big right from the first ball but offers a catch to the long on fielder, who makes a mess of it.
...
7.5 Wesrick Strough to Chelson Stowe, OUT! Strough has his man. Short ball that should have been dispatched, Stowe hit it a tad too flat and into the hands of the man at deep mid-wicket. Credit due to the fielder too who did well to hold onto a rather sharp chance at the fence.
...
7.4 Wesrick Strough to Chelson Stowe, SIX more! Length ball on the stumps, Stowe charges down the track and lifts it handsomely over long on for a maximum! Where have you been all along, Mr. Stowe? Another error in the batting order by a team? We have already seen one today featuring Hector and SPB!
...
7.3 Wesrick Strough to Chelson Stowe, pressure is telling on Strough! Sprays it down the leg side.
...
7.3 Wesrick Strough to Chelson Stowe, FOUR! Short and on the hips, Stowe turns around and guides it over the fine leg fielder for a boundary.
...
7.2 Wesrick Strough to Chelson Stowe, SIX! In the slot and asking to be hit, Stowe clears his front leg and smashes it over long on. Wow! That was a shot and a half! Perhaps the purest hit we have seen all day.
...
7.1 Wesrick Strough to Renrick Williams, Williams dabs it to short third man, overthrow allows a single.
...
FCS are 36-3 after 7 overs. They have not even managed to go at more than run a ball and that probably sums up their dismal batting display today
...
6.6 Benninton Stapleton to Renrick Williams, length ball outside off, Williams gets an inside edge to the square leg fielder.
...
6.5 Benninton Stapleton to Renrick Williams, length ball that keeps low, Williams is beaten.
...
6.4 Benninton Stapleton to Renrick Williams, FOUR! Williams walks across the stumps and flicks it over short fine leg for four. Finally, something to cheer for FCS. Williams gets one out of the middle and gives the umpire a bit of work to do.
...
6.3 Benninton Stapleton to Renrick Williams, looks for the heave on a length delivery, misses the line of the ball. If FCS were awarded runs for the velocity of their swings, they would've ransacked the target by now. Unfortunately though, that's not how the cricketing cookie crumbles.
...
6.2 Benninton Stapleton to Chelson Stowe, short ball pulled away to square leg.
...
6.1 Benninton Stapleton to Chelson Stowe, quick ball hits Stowe on his hips, ball trickles away to point.
...
FCS now require 59 runs off 24 deliveries and the required run rate is well above 14 runs per over, nearly nudging 15 runs per over. Surely it's game, set and match SPB now!
...
5.6 Sunil Ambris to Chelson Stowe, quicker delivery swished down to long on for a single.
...
5.5 Sunil Ambris to Chelson Stowe, length ball turned away to fine leg.
...
5.4 Sunil Ambris to Chelson Stowe, looooopy and extremely slow, wide outside the leg stump as well. Not the dream delivery he would've envisioned.
...
5.4 Sunil Ambris to Gidron Pope, OUT! Pope has been dismissed! Short ball takes a little bit of turn, the edge is taken comfortably by Sween behind the stumps. And, Pope also has to bite the dust. Though he had a few promising moments, he was largely patchy through his innings.
...
5.3 Sunil Ambris to Gidron Pope, yorker length delivery from Ambris, driven back to him. Pope looked to thrash it down the ground but found that the length wasn't there for the expansive shot. He then ground out the delivery to the bowler.
...
5.2 Sunil Ambris to Renrick Williams, length ball lifted down to long on for one. Ambris is doing well to not accord batsman the room to free their arms.
...
5.1 Sunil Ambris to Gidron Pope, short and outside off, Pope swipes it down the ground for a single.
...
FCS are 27-2 after 5 overs and they need 62 runs from 30 deliveries. The task is getting more arduous by the minute.
...
4.6 Jeremy Layne to Keron Cottoy, OUT! Layne has his man! Quick bumper from the pacer, Cottoy was beaten for pace and ended up skying it high in the air, Layne takes it upon himself to take the catch.
...
4.5 Jeremy Layne to Gidron Pope, single to square leg. Pope is trying hard but he is yet to get that elusive boundary to re-ignite his innings.
...
4.4 Jeremy Layne to Keron Cottoy, short ball rising onto Cottoy who pulls it fiercely to mid-wicket, just for a single.
...
4.3 Jeremy Layne to Keron Cottoy, the FCS captain walks down the track and flicks to to square leg for a double.
...
SPB have kept Pope away from strike and that has led to the latter losing his rhythm after an impressive start in the opening over. FCS would want their stocky left-hander to get back among the runs. Else, their chase could just wither away.
...
4.2 Jeremy Layne to Gidron Pope, short and on the hips, tucked to short fine leg for a single.
...
4.1 Jeremy Layne to Gidron Pope, length ball outside off, Pope fails to connect with a pull shot
...
FCS are 22-1 after 4 overs and their chase is firmly in disarray. They are scoring at 5.50 runs per over and require another 67 runs in 6 overs. Surely something has to give now.
...
3.6 Sunil Ambris to Gidron Pope, cut away fiercely to point, only for a single.
...
3.5 Sunil Ambris to Gidron Pope, Pope looks for broke but fails to connect with the ball. The FCS batsmen are making the same mistakes again and again. They are losing their shape and are not getting any contact or timing on their shots.
