It was raining goals on a wet afternoon at the Barasat Stadium sees another goalfest in two days. Mohun Bagan decimated Churchill Brothers with their attacking play with goals from all their attacking mainstays. Mohun Bagan now climbs to the top of the Hero I-League standings thanks to their superior goal difference.
87'- Sony Norde comes back on the field and has his knee strapped with the captain braving the pain and will complete the match as Sanjoy Sen hopes it is not a big injury for his main man.
84' - GOAL!! Sony Norde finally scores as he gets in from the left in his classic manner and finishes the effort well into the left bottom corner. However, he hurts himself in the process in what looks like a knee-related concern.
82' - DIcka almost has his hat-trick!! Faiaz cuts in from the right and passes it to Raynier who lays it up for Dicka but a Churchill defender is first to the ball and clears it away from the danger.
80' - CHANCE!!! First real attack from the Goans in the second half as Gurung went in from the right nutmegging the left-back and crossed it across the box but the shot was blocked by the defense of the home side.
75' - Norde, back on the pitch after his treatment takes a shot from the left edge of the box now, which is aimed at the near post but misses the target by some distance.
72' - Sony Norde takes a solo run into the box and goes down hurt after tussling with Precious for the ball. Any injury to the Haitian would be the biggest blow for Sanjoy Sen as the physio attends to the skipper.
63' - Kromah is back and running on the pitch as Norde lays it up for the Liberian but he shoots straight at the Churchill Brothers' keeper as Bagan continue to attack the visitors' goal.
60' - Another concern for the Bagan side as it is Kromah who has gone down injured. Gurjinder Kumar has come on in place of Arijit Bagui for the home side. Kromah is being attended to by the physio as we will soon know his fate.
58 ' - Offside Again!! The Bagan attacking trio have been attacking in large numbers but are straying offside with each of the three been called offside in the past minutes by the linesman. Arijit Bagui is down with a knock as the medical staff rushes in as the rain drizzles here in Kolkata with the spectators taking out their umbrellas as the Barasat doesn't have cover for the spectators.
4 ' - OFFSIDE!! Kromah manages to get on the end of Norde's pass and scores but he has been pulled back for offside. Churchill Brothers' defence is in shambles currently.
48' - FOUR!! Churchill Brothers are caught again as Kromah capitalizes on the lethargy of Churchill defense and gets in to put a cross past the diving keeper for Faiaz to simply tap it in for the fourth goal of the afternoon.
46' - The second half begins with a bang as Dicka gets his second of the afternoon after Faiaz crossed it in and Dicka's well-timed run allowed him to tap it past the Churchill keeper. Incredible start for the Mariners.
The Mariners put in a commanding display as Kromah and Dicka strike to take the home side away to a 2-0 lead. Churchill Brothers have struggled to come into the game as Bagan midfielders have stood firm and the defense has been miserly. Stay tuned for the second half in about 15 minutes as we return.
47' - INCHES WIDE!!! Sony Norde gets the ball from Fernandes on the left and in his classic style, cuts into the box and crosses it for Dicka, who manages to get away from Precious' tackle and takes an effort that is just wide to the right of the Churchill goal. Almost a third goal there!!
40' - Substitution for Churchill Brothers: Karthik Govindswamy who looks hurt with something makes way for Israil Gurung as the first change is done by Shevchenko
36' - CLOSE!! Chance out of nowhere as Dicka manages to slip the offside trap and crosses the ball to Norde who takes a first-time shot but Kithan parries it away for a corner. The Bagan attack creating a lot of chances...
33 ' - SECOND FOR BAGAN!! Dicka opens his I-League account for the season as a mistake by the Churchill defense allows him to run through between the defense and slot his shot past the keeper easily. Tough task ahead for Churchill Brothers now.
23' - GOAL!! Kromah gets a goal against his former side. Great finish from the Liberian as he received the ball at the top of the D-box. He gets the pass from Faiaz and takes a touch and slots it into the left bottom corner past the diving Kithan in the Churchill goal. Kromah didn't celebrate the goal in respect of his former side.
20' - Dene tries to catch Shilton Paul who was out of his line but the attempt just goes over the cross as the Bagan keeper hurtles back and falls backwards into the goal.
17' - Dicka comes close!! Gets a ball through the center of the defense but isn't able to beat Kithan in the Churchill goal as his effort doesn't curl enough to go in.
14' - Kromah is brought down just outside the box after he dodged a defender but was caught with a late challenge. Good chance for Baga. Sony Norde will be the favorite to take the free-kick.
Mohun Bagan are third in the Hero I-League standings with 4 points from their two games and Churchill Brothers are at the bottom having played just one match and lost. Churchill will aim to open their account in the league but Bagan have a chance to climb atop the standings.
The sides come into the game in a contrasting run of events...Mohun Bagan won their crucial derby fixture against East Bengal with a 1-0 margin whereas Churchill Brothers lost their opening fixture against Shillong Lajong away in Meghalaya in a 2-0 score.
Mohun Bagan have made one change to their lineup that won the Kolkata derby at the Salt Lake Stadium. Sheikh Faiz comes into the starting lineup for Naro Hari Srestha.
