So another humdinger comes to a close, England have qualified. Tomorrow is the big one from Mohali with Australia taking on India for a winner takes all clash. See you then with the live coverage. Goodnight and take care!
...
Angelo Mathews: "It was a brilliant effort in the first six overs from them. Hasn't been a good tournament for us. We have a new squad. Good learning experience for the youngsters. Our senior guys needed to step it up which we didn't."
...
Eoin Morgan: "It was tighter than we had hoped for. First six overs were crucial. Lot of confidence from today's match. We adapted in 2010, and to do that would be incredible."
...
What a roller-coaster of a match. Sri Lanka were down and out for the first 10 overs, but then some lusty hitting by Mathews and Kapugedara and then Perera helped Sri Lanka stay afloat, but the excellent overs at the death particularly from Jordan and Stokes, killed the chase. Angelo Mathew was hobbling and he could not muster enough to take his side through.
...
Buttler: " We needed Stokes to hit that last ball for six as well, too, him hitting that last ball for six…and that fantastic over at the death. Needed to adapt to the conditions better, and it is incredible to qualify for the Semis.. We are a young group, so it is special."
...
...
Jos Buttler is the player of the match, for his 37-ball 66 runs.
...
...
Perera and Mathews clobbered the spinners and Sri Lanka came storming back in, and in the end not enough ammunition to see his side through.
...
Angelo Mathews tries everything on one leg but could not get the final decisive push.
...
England are through to the semis, Sri Lanka and South Africa are knocked out.
...
19.6 Stokes to Mathews, no run, once again full ball and Mathews cannot get it anywhere. Excellent bowling from Stokes under pressure, and he belts out a triumphant yelp.
...
19.5 Stokes to Mathews, no run, this time it was on the length but Mathews does not have the gas to deposit it.
...
19.4 Stokes to Mathews, no run, brilliant yorker from Stokes, he has nailed it.
...
19.3 Stokes to Mathews, 2 runs, walks across and scoops across and Rashid jumps and gets a touch and they get a double.
...
19.2 Stokes to Mathews, 2 runs, full ball and Mathews digs it to the on side and they hobble across for a brace. Desperate stuff this.
...
19.1 Stokes to Mathews, no run, full bunger, cannot get it anywhere, straight to short cover.
...
It is drizzling.
...
...
So the final over. 15 runs. Angelo Mathews on strike.
...
18.6 Jordan to Herath, OUT, bowled, full and straight and Herath backs away and misses the ball that demolishes the stumps. Jordan is pumped up.
...
18.5 Jordan to Mathews, 1 run, width on off and Mathews smashes to sweeper cover.
...
18.4 Jordan to Herath, 1 run, short and in the body and Herath just about pulls it to the on side for a single. Angelo back on strike.
...
England back once again.
...
18.3 Jordan to Shanaka, OUT, smashed to mid-off where Joe Root pulls off a blinder. That was pitched up and was in the arc.
