Vishnu Saravanan's results so far in the Men's Laser Radial sailing event -

Race 1 : 14th place
Race 2 : 20th place
Race 3 : 24th place

It's been a tough outing for the young Indian sailer so far, with strong breezes and an ultra-tough competition field proving to be major obstacles in his quest to get into the Top 20. He can, however, take heart from the strong starts he's got so far which have propelled him within the Top 10 as well in few of the races.

However, with 7 races to go in the 10-race series, all eyes will be on Vishnu as he battles the rest of the fleet to improve his ranking and gain some valuable experience in what is his Olympics debut!

10:57 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Vishnu started off well but dropped off by a few places to finish 24th

10:55 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Vishnu Saravanan finishes Race 2 in 24th position!

The youngster rounded Mark 6 in 24th place as well and maintained the position to breeze across the finish line.

10:48 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Excellent recovery from Vishnu Saravanan, he climbs four places to round Mark 5 in 22nd place!

Now a path downwind to Mark 6, and then a short turn towards the finish line. Can Vishnu improve on his position and sneak into the Top 20?

10:46 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Race leader Jesper has now crossed Mark 5 with a time of 43 minutes and 20 seconds! Australia's Matt Wearn is in 2nd, followed by Croatia's Tonci Stipanovic.

10:35 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Vishnu loses two places to occupy 26th place as he rounds Mark 4. The Indian sailor crossed Mark 1 in 20th and has now fallen down by 6 spots, a lot of ground to make up.

10:34 (IST)26 JUL 2021

We're now at Mark 4, with Hungary's Benjamin, Sweden's Jesper and Australia's Matt in the Top 3.

10:31 (IST)26 JUL 2021

A shuffle in order at the top of the pack, with Sweden's Jesper Stalheim in the lead, Hungary's Benjamin and Australia's Matt Wearn in 3rd place.

10:29 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Vishnu slips down four places to 24th, as the sailors cross Mark 3 and are now head downwind to Mark 4.

10:18 (IST)26 JUL 2021

No change in position for Vishnu, 20th place at Mark 2 with a time of 16 minute 49 seconds, 1.03 min behind the leader.

10:18 (IST)26 JUL 2021

NZ's Meech Sam picks up the pace to cross Mark 2 first with a time of 15.46 min, and he's followed by Bejamin Vadai and Robert Schiedt.

10:14 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Vishnu crosses Mark 1 of Race 3 in 20th place, 54 seconds behind leader Robert Schiedt from Brazil.

The Indian sailor again came in from the left and had to take a sharp turn as he approached the first mark, probably lost quite some time in that transition stage.

10:07 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Vishnu now closing up to Hungary's Benjamin, who is in 3rd place. Seriously a good start from the Indian sailor in this Race 3!

10:04 (IST)26 JUL 2021

NZ's Meech Sam, Hungary's Benjamin Vadnai and Chile's Clemente Seguel form the Top 3 so far.

Vishnu's had a great start so far, and he's just about 5-10 seconds behind the leaders, but he's one among 8 boats in the same line.

10:01 (IST)26 JUL 2021

We are underway! This time, the fleet is spread well across the start line, but the boats are now shifting towards the right with a favourable breeze towards that side.

09:57 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Right! We're about 3 minutes away from the start of Race 3! Vishnu is currently in 20th place overall, and a good result from Race 3 could propel his chances of ending in the Top 10 towards the end of this series.

09:42 (IST)26 JUL 2021

That brings us to the end of our coverage of the Men's Laser Radial Race 2!

Don't go anywhere though, for we will have Vishnu in action just a few minutes from now in Race 3, where he will be eager to break into the Top 15 once again!

09:41 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Top 20 standings at the end of Race 2 of the Men's Laser Radial

09:38 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Vishnu Saravanan crosses the finish line in 20th place!

A good recovery from Vishnu to climb up 9 places from his 29th place at Mark 1, but he'll be disappointed to have missed out on a good opportunity to sneak into the Top 15. Fair to say he was probably undone with the traffic he had to stave off in quite a few marks, especially in the second half of Race 2, but 20th rank overall is a great effort from the Indian!

09:36 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Vishnu gains one place to cross Mark 6 in 20th place, 2 minutes and 27 behind the Montenegro sailor.

09:34 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Race leader Milivoj Dukic, who's from Montenegro has crossed Mark 6 with a time of 50 minutes and 44 seconds, and is now heading towards the finish line! What a race he's had, exhibiting some major shifts to steal the lead from German sailor Philipp and cruise to a win!

09:32 (IST)26 JUL 2021

At the 5th mark, Vishnu's lost a few positions again and he's in 21st place as he crosses Mark 5. Vishnu's lost quite some time as well, trailing by 2 minutes and 32 seconds to the leader.

09:24 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Vishnu climbed up to 14th at Mark 3 with a time of just 1 minute and 23 seconds behind the leader.

However, he slipped down four ranks to be in 18th place at Mark 4 with a trailing time of 1 minute and 51 seconds.

09:18 (IST)26 JUL 2021

A couple of incidents have resulted in a few confusions, and we're awaiting the timings as the race leader Philipp has crossed Mark 4 as well.

09:17 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Whoops! Such drama at Mark 3, with the Swedish sailor first hitting the mark and then even falling into the water a few seconds later! He had a good chance of crossing the third mark within the Top 5, but he's slipped down quite a few places.

09:14 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Germany's Philipp Buhl crosses Mark 3 in first place, and he has a massive lead over Chile's Clemente (+16s).

09:06 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Not much of a recovery from Vishnu yet, as we inch towards Mark 3.

09:02 (IST)26 JUL 2021

We're now at Mark 2! Vishnu maintains his 29th position and gets across the second mark 1 minute and 16 seconds behind race leader, German's Philipp Buhl.

08:59 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Vishnu Saravanan crosses Mark 1 in 29th place.

Not the greatest of starts for the young Indian sailor, who started off among the leaders but has dropped a lot of places down the pack. Unfortunate for him also that he was involved in that logjam at Mark 1, but he'll need to do a lot of catching up ahead of Mark 2.

08:57 (IST)26 JUL 2021

A lot of traffic at the 1st mark as the sailors jostle for important places as they get past Mark 1! Vishnu lost a lot of time since he needed to turn all the way to the right from his approach on the left towards Mark 1.

08:51 (IST)26 JUL 2021

We're seeing Vishnu close to 13th place now, as we approach Mark 1 in a minute or so from now.

08:47 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Race 1 leader Jean Baptiste has fallen way down the pecking order, and right now, Chile's Clemente Seguel is in 1st place followed by Korea's Jeemin Ha and Trinidad and Tobago's Andrew Lewis.

08:45 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Vishnu is one among the Top 15! The Indian is doing a good job at keeping a close distance with the leaders, and he's currently battling with NZ's Sam Meech and Cyprus' Pavlos Kontides for some gain in position.

08:43 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Vishnu has started a little closer to the mid-line, and as expected France, China and Korea have taken an early lead

08:41 (IST)26 JUL 2021

All the sailors have opted for a right-side start, and they've crowded the start area - not surprising, considering the wind will be in their favour!

08:39 (IST)26 JUL 2021

We're about 3 minutes away from the start! Vishnu can fancy his chances of finishing Race 2 in the Top 10, after his terrific exhibition in the second phase of Race 1 yesterday.

08:32 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Saravanan finished in 14th place after Race 1

08:24 (IST)26 JUL 2021

Hello folks, and welcome to Sportskeeda's live coverage of the Men's Laser Radial Race 2 and 3!

India's Vishnu Saravanan is the country's representative in this event, and he is also one of the four sailors who will be competing across different disciplines in Tokyo.

Saravanan put on quite a show yesterday, making a strong comeback in the second half of the race to climb from 29th spot to finish 14th, just 2 minutes and 24 seconds behind race leader, France's Jean Baptiste.

While each day of the sailing event is expected to consist of two races in the 10-race series, the second race yesterday had to be cancelled due to unfavourable weather conditions, and Race 2 will be contested today from 8.35 AM IST.
