Vishnu Sarvanan finishes 12th, registers India's best finish in Tokyo Olympics sailing events so far

That's it from Race 6 of the Men's Laser Radial event, where Vishnu Saravanan put up quite a spirited show to stave off some serious competition and finish 12th. The youngster will again be in action on July 29th in Race 7 and Race 8, the former commencing at 8.45 AM IST.

The 12th place finish means Vishnu is in 22nd place overall, and a few more excellent results in the last few races could give him a chance to make it into the Top 15.

Vishnu Saravanan crossed the 5th mark in 12th place and retains the position to finish Race 6 in 12th too!

What a stunning effort this has been from the youngster, who was at one point even within the Top 10 (8th at Mark 3), weathering off competition from some veterans and experienced sailors in the fleet!

Meanwhile, we also had the Indian pair of KC Ganapathy and Varun Thakkar in action today in the Men's Skiff - 49er category Race 1. 

The duo started off very strong and were 7th at Mark 1, 6th at Mark 2, before they dropped down 9 places to 15th at the third mark. They hold on to 15th for the succeeding two marks, but could only finish Race 1 in 18th, one place above last-ranked Canada.

Some race Vishnu's having, absolutely cruising through the field in his quest to find a spot within the Top 10!

Cyprus' Pavlos Kontides has stolen the lead at Mark 3, with a timing of 35 minutes and 9 seconds to his name. Following him are Australia's Matt Wearn and New Zealand's Sam Meech.

A slight dip for Vishnu at Mark 2, the youngster in 16th place after dropping 5 places. 

However, importantly, his overall rank has improved by one place to 25th, and a consistent show in this race could proper his chances of ending in the Top 20.

What a start for Vishnu! The Indian sailor is in 11th place at Mark 1! 

A brilliant start to Race 6 for Vishnu, he took only 27 seconds after the race leader reached Mark 1 to get to the landmark.

Race 6 will follow the same process as the previous 5, with sailors needing to reach 4 separate marks before turning towards the finish line.

Vishnu Saravanan's Race 5 breakdown

Not quite, but it's a positive result nonetheless as Vishnu Saravanan gets across the finish line in 22nd place!

The young Indian sailor takes 4 minutes and 23 seconds longer than the race leader, but he can be mighty impressed to have finished before France's Jean Baptiste who won Race 1 of this Men's Laser Radial competition.

Vishnu maintains his 22nd place at Mark 4, and he's 2 minutes and 34 seconds behind race leader Matt Wearn.

Woah! Vishnu Saravanan has jumped 7 places and is now in 22nd place after Mark 3! That's some tremendous improvement from the youngster, and he now has a good shot at finishing within the Top 20!

He's 1 minute and 38 seconds off the leader's pace, and the youngster will need to gather some pace to challenge for the top positions.

Not the greatest of starts for Vishnu, who finds himself in 28th place at Mark 1. Estonia's Martin-Karl in the lead, followed by Great Britain's Elliot Hanson and Australia's Matt Wearn.

Vishnu Sarvana finished 14th in Race 1, and in Race 2, the Indian sailor finished 20th. In the third Race, Vishnu lost a few places to end in 24th place, while he bettered his position in the next race to end in 23rd position.
