Paralympics 2021: Avani Lekhara and Sumit Antil lead India's historic medal haul on Day 6 with gold medals in shooting and javelin throw

And that brings up to the end of a hugely successful day for India at the 2021 Paralympic Games. Be it the track-and- field or the shooting range, India's star athletes were in top form today, bringing home a record tally of medals including two golds from Avani Lekhara and Sumit Antil!

Sumit with another stellar effort! Throws 66.71, stays in the GOLD MEDAL POSITION with just two more rounds to go!

Sandeep steps over as he looked disappointed with the effort; Burian meanwhile improves to 63.15m to stay in bronze as the gap widens between the two!

Sandeep ready to take his fourth attempt! Can he recover and move up to a medal position?

Ukraine's Roman Novak kicks things off with a throw of 53.00m, stays in 8th position.

The competition is heating it up, especially for the silver and bronze medal places. Kodithuwakku, Buriam and India's Sandeep Chaudhary all in the mix at the end of Round 3!

Sandeep makes a slight improvement to 62.20m, but still in 4th place. Sri Lanka's Kodithuwakku, meanwhile, has reclaimed his silver medal spot with a throw of 63.49m!

Sumit is giving the rest of the field a run for their money. His third throw of 65,32m - well short of his best effort - is still 2 meters clear of any other athlete's best effort!

And just like we feared, Australia's Michal Burian throws 62.68m and overtakes Kodithuwakku and Sandeep. The Indian in now in 4th place.

Sandeep steps over the line, realizing that it wasn't the cleanest of released right off the bat! Still in bronze medal position, but can he hold on in the face of the from the rest of the filed?

Sri Lanka's Kodithuwakku D is currently in the silver medal position with a best throw of 62.11m.

He is the zone today!! Sporting fans are witnessing something special today as Sumit Antil BREAKS THE WORLD RECORD FOR THE TWICE IN TWO ATTEMPTS. Records another massive throw of 68.08m!

The Indian now has a near 6m-lead over his closest opponent?! This is hugely impressive from the 22 year old at the moment.

Both Indians are in medal positions at the end of Round 1. It has been a special effort from Sumit already, but will we see a fight for gold??!

"My goal will be to record another 66-plus-metres throw. A good performance will add to my confidence,"

- Sumit Antil had said after throwing a 66m plus throw back in 2019. He is certainly living up to his own lofty standards!

Sandeep opens with a solid throw of 61.13m, catapulting him into BRONZE MEDAL position. This has been a splendid start for the Indian contingent.

And what unbelievable opening effort from the Indian! SUMIT BREAKS THE WORLD RECORD with a mammoth throw of 66.95m!!!

Places himself firmly in the gold medal position. And he erupts into a roar right away!

Hello and welcome back Sportskeeda's continued coverage of 2021 Tokyo Paralympics! The Indian contingent has made quite a start to Day 6 of the Games, with Avani Lekhara clinching Gold in 10m Rifle and Devendra Jhajaria, Sundar Singh Gurjar and Yogesh Kathuniya bringing home track-and-field medals!

Their compartriots Sumit Antil and Sandeep Chaudhary are now looking to follow suit as they take on the field in yet another javelin throw final! The Men's javlein throw final F42, 42, 46, 62, 63 and 64 final, scheduled to start at around 3.30pm IST. So stay tuned as live action coming your way in just over 15 minutes!

Final scorecard. This is how the top 4 shooters fared.

Scores of 10.1 and 10.2 in this round for Swaroop weren't enough to stay in the competition as he finished 4th in an agonising manner with 0.3 points behind.

OH NO! Shots of 9.9 and 9.5 in this round has put Swaroop at 4th position, 0.2 points behind the shooter at third. Only 4 shooters remain now.

Scores after the elimination of three players. Swaroop leads by 0.3 points

He scores 10.3 and 10.0 in the next two and moves down to the second spot by 0.1 points. 6 players remain in the finals.

A score of 10.6 and 10.0 in the first two shots has put Swaroop at first place by 0.1 points!

The elimination stage begins now. The player with the lowest score will be eliminated after every two shots.
