India thus finish their World Cup Stage 4 campaign in Berlin empty-handed. This was the only competition in which they were aiming for a medal. Unfortunately, the Germans proved to be too good on home soil.
And what a story this is for Germany! They were the lower seeds but they came up with the right composure, consistency and determination to see off the higher seeds at home and get the bronze!
India face off against Germany in the bronze medal playoff at the Archery World Cup Final Stage 4, which is being held in Berlin. The Indian team will consist of ace archers Abhishek Verma, Aman Saini and Amanjeet Singh while forming the Germany team will be Henrik Hornung, Marchel Trachsel and Marcus Laube.
The Indian team starts as favourites in the event, given their higher seeding over their German opposition. In the first round, India recorded a comfortable win over Spain that saw the scoreline read 228-222. In the quarters, Sweden were defeated by a narrow two-point margin 231-229.
Up next were USA in the semifinals but despite their best efforts, the Indian side failed to trouble their opponents and lost the match 233-228. They trailed from the first end itself and were never threatening enough to overtake the American trio.
They play Germany now to see who will take the remaining place on the podium. Stay tuned to this space for the latest coverage!
