The Indian chase never got going, but when Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni combined together things looked to be back on track. And then, Martin Guptill came in, bowled a million wides, but took two crucial wickets and India were left reeling at 183/8, still 54 adrift. Enter Hardik Pandya and Umesh Yadav and forged a sensational partnership, and the Kiwis was shocked, but then Pandya played one stroke too many and Southee's yorker was all too good for Bumrah.
We will be back for the 3rd ODI in Mohali on Sunday, and this series promises to be a cracking affair!
Kane Williamson is the Man of the Match: "It is nice to talk about winning. The wicket was not easy to accelerate, and we knew that at the half way stage, but credit to our bowling, Boult led from the front and was outstanding. The bowling was huge, we were below par with the score, but we had enough runs to squeeze them. The dew did not help, the left-arm spinners did a great job, they allowed the seamers to be the aggressors. Credit to India, they never gave in and fought all the way. I want to to contribute for the team, 100 or no. It was a pretty good surface, but was tough to increase the scoring. The cramps are just fine."
MS Dhoni: "Well it is important, unfortunate we lost the game. We kept losing wickets, and this hurt us. The run-rate was under control. Any batsman would say, another 10 runs would have won the game for us. You need to play 50 overs while chasing, the wicket was good to bat initially and then it got slower. There was not a lot of dew, and despite this the ball did not come on to the bat well. We could have done slightly better. All bowlers bowled well, the fast bowlers got control, and we did bowl well in the last 20-25 overs."
All set for the Match presentation!
A real humdinger here and finally the Kiwis have found a reason to smile on this tour. For once they pressed on with the momentum and kept at it till the end, and have win their first match in India after 13 years. They were few jitters along the way, but they have somehow managed to stay afloat. The series is now back in the balance, 1-1.
49.3 Southee to Bumrah, OUT! NZ win by 6 runs! The visitors have won their first match on the tour and they have done it in some style. What a match it was for them to win. It's their first win in India in 13 years. Full ball, a yorker on middle stump, Bumrah tries to keep that out but fails to do so. The ball crashes into middle and off, and just like that, India's hopes come crashing down to the ground.
49.2 Southee to Umesh, 1 run, full length ball outside off, Umesh slaps that to mid-on for a quick single.
49.1 Southee to Umesh, 2 runs, full ball on middle and leg, Umesh squeezes that towards deep midwicket for a couple.
10 runs needed, 6 balls left. All down to Umesh Yadav!
48.6 Boult to Umesh, 1 run, low full toss outside off, Umesh slaps that to cover-point for a single.
48.5 Boult to Hardik, OUT! The game swings on its head! Short in length, outside off, Pandya comes down the track and slaps that over covers. He doesn't manage to connect properly and gets a top edge over extra cover, where the fielder in the deep gulps down the ball. India are so close, and if they lose it from here, they'll have only themselves to blame.
48.4 Boult to Hardik, no run, full ball on leg stump, almost a yorker, Hardik keeps it out.
48.3 Boult to Hardik, FOUR! What a shot! Full ball outisde off, Hardik clears the front leg and smashes that over mid-on, that was inside the cricle for a boundary.
48.2 Boult to Hardik, no run, full and wide of off stump, Hardik leaves that alone in the anticipation of it called as a wide.
48.1 Boult to Umesh, 1 run, length ball outside off, Umesh cuts that, gets an outside edge yet again, as the ball travels to the man at deep third man.

47.3 Henry to Umesh, 1 run, length ball on leg stump, flicked towards deep fine leg for a single.
47.2 Henry to Umesh, 2 runs, good length ball outside off, Umesh cuts that hard towards deep backward point for a couple. The fielder at the ropes does well to cut that boundary off.
47.1 Henry to Hardik, 1 run, good length ball outside off, Pandya bunts that towards deep midwicket for a single.
46.6 Southee to Hardik, 1 run, good length ball outside off, Hardik flicks that towards deep midwicket for a single.
46.5 Southee to Hardik, 2 runs, good length ball outside off, Pandya slaps that to short cover, where the fielder picks up the ball and hits the stumps. There was no one to back that throw up and an overthrow gifts India another run.
46.4 Southee to Umesh, 1 run, short ball, waist high, Umesh looks to pull, connects that, but finds Taylor at short square leg.
46.3 Southee to Umesh, no run, an off cutter of sorts, which is just outside off. Umesh gives himself room and looks to cut, but misses.
46.3 Southee to Umesh, WIDE! Full ball, down the leg side. Umesh leaves that.
46.2 Southee to Hardik, 1 run, good length ball outside off, with low bounce, Pandya flicks that towards deep midwicket.
46.1 Southee to Hardik, 2 runs, good length ball, outside off, Pandya flicks that in the gap between long on and deep midwicket for a couple. Well run!
Kohli is ecstatic, and so are the people at the ground. Can Pandya do it? Can he actually guide India home?
45.6 Boult to Hardik, 1 run, full ball is driven to mid-off for a single.
45.5 Boult to Hardik, 2 runs, short and wide, Hardik cuts, past point for a brace. Pressure on New Zealand, suddenly!
45.4 Boult to Hardik, FOUR, leg byes, length ball, hit on the pads and the ball races across the slick outfield for a boundary.
45.3 Boult to Umesh, 1 run, length ball is guided to point for a single.
45.2 Boult to Umesh, no run, length ball zipped past Umesh's attempt at the guide to third man.
45.1 Boult to Hardik, 1 run, length ball is driven to short cover for a single.
Hardik Pandya is holding the fort from one end. All he needs is some support from Umesh. The match has lasted longer than what many would have expected, and these two can now dream of guiding the team home.
44.6 Southee to Hardik, 1 run, length ball is turned away for a single.
44.5 Southee to Umesh, 1 run, slower bumper, Umesh waits for it and pulls it to long leg for a single.

44.1 Southee to Hardik, no run, makes room and smacks a length ball but cannot get it past mid-on.
43.6 Boult to Hardik, 1 run, shuffles across and clips a length ball on off stump to deep mid-wicket to retain strike.
43.5 Boult to Hardik, no run, full ball, slower ball too, Pandya goes for the booming drive but was way too early into that stroke.
43.4 Boult to Hardik, no run, length ball angled in, Hardki walks across but misses with his flick. Ball takes the thigh pads.
