The IPL has not got off to a blazing start as expected. The juggernaut rolls on and tomorrow is another day at the office. Gujarat Lions will lock horns against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali. We will be with you for the match. Take care, See ya!
...
Andre Russell is the man of the match: "You have to adjust to any surface, it was a good surface and you should know where to bowl. Winning the world cup will give us the confidence. I bowled with confidence and if I would have batted in a explosive manner. We are confident with Chawla and Brad Hogg and credit to them as well."
...
Gautam Gambhir: "We were very professional, especially by Russell up front. Credit top the bowlers for restricting them. Not used to playing on this type of pitch and hence was not quite sure of the number of runs needed. Russell is a quality player irrespective of the surface. Someone had to bat through, and we discussed and it was my job. Robin batted beautifully. I played after a long time, so it is good to get runs against this attack. We have covered all our bases, and will be happy with whatever surface we get."
...
Manish Pandey is the fielder of the day! Hmm.. interesting.
...
Carlos Brathwaite wins the cheque and award for hitting the biggest six.
...
Rather forgettable day for the Delhi Daredevils after they were inserted in. The batsmen never got going and KKR bowlers, both the pacers and spinners were all on the money. 98 was all that they could get. It was never going to be enough. Uthappa and Gambhir started in sublime fashion, and Uthappa looked superb out there with his timing. Gambhir stuck in and saw the team through.
...
Zaheer Khan: " You learn everyday, I was trying to do too much, but happy with the other fast bowlers. IPL is a long tournament, it was a bad day but hopefully this will be the last one. We gave the young batsmen freedom, they have energy and they will be working on their game, and they will learn. A score of 120-130 would be competitive. Our batting is good, they just had an off day. We have prepared well, and it is all about expressing themselves."
...
And that should be that. Gambhir takes his side home. A clinical display from the KKR today and they have demolished Delhi Daredevils. It is back to the drawing room for Rahul Dravid, Paddy Upton and Zaheer Khan. Dismal is the word, but they have the ammunition to bounce back.
...
14.1 Khan to Gambhir, 1 run, game over! Gambhir knocks the ball down and takes a quick single like he has on a number of occassions today, finishes unbeaten on 38 to lead his team to victory.
...
Awful ball from Zaheer Khan. Bad day for the captain today.
...
14.1 Khan to Gambhir, WIDE, high and well collected by De Kock.
...
Only 2 runs to get here. Delhi have not arrived to play today and there has been luck going there side too.
...
13.6 Coulter-Nile to Pandey, FOUR! This one on the legside, backs away and pulls it to the boundary past midwicket.
...
Finally Pandey gets a full ball and Pandey drives it handsomely. A reprieve after the short ball barrage.
...
13.5 Coulter-Nile to Pandey, FOUR! Half volley, creamed through the covers by Pandey, his best looking shot for sure.
...
13.4 Coulter-Nile to Gambhir, 1 run, Gambhir defends and collects a quick single.
...
13.3 Coulter-Nile to Gambhir, no run, good bouncer, looked like it might have been too high, umpire didn't think so.
...
Gambhir has not looked too fluent after his bright straight, but he is there and time at the crease will do him no harm.
...
13.2 Coulter-Nile to Gambhir, no run, slower ball and low bounce, Gambhir pulls but the ball dips and goes under his bat into the hands of the keeper.
...
13.1 Coulter-Nile to Gambhir, FOUR! Good ball on a good length outside off, finds Gambhir's outside edge and flies to the third man boundary. No slip, but you would not expect slips at this stage. Sums up the day for the Daredevils.
...
Chris Morris has given it at all today, but has no luck to show for his efforts.
...
12.6 Morris to Pandey, no run, Pandey hacks at the ball again, it finds the bottom edge and is fielded by the keeper.
...
12.5 Morris to Gambhir, 1 run, plays it off his waist towards deep fine leg.
...
12.4 Morris to Pandey, 1 run, plays it over the short square leg fielder. Nothing going the way of DD, as it just evades the fielder placed strategically at that point.
...
12.3 Morris to Pandey, no run, fielded at short fine leg. Pandey looking awkward on the crease today. He was expecting another short ball and Morris slips in a full ball, and Pandey somehow gets his bat down.
