Mumbai held on till the end, but Gujarat were good when it mattered more and they are now well on top after having won all of their games. They look strong and well rounded, and have become a force to reckon with. Mumbai will have to ponder over what went wrong and it is their batting that should be sorted out first.
...
Aaron Finch is the player of the match. 3rd consecutive time: " It was just cramps, the heat was oppressive. Nice to get ourselves over the line, and it was nice to bat through. Having played a lot of T20s, it is easy to stay calm. Kulkarni was good with that shot over covers. The way Praveen and Dhawal started was very special."
...
Suresh Raina: "It is a good place to play cricket, and it is tough to play against Mumbai Indians. Bowlers executed the plans well. Low scoring matches are always difficult, credit goes to Mumbai Indians. Kudos to Finch and Kulkarnii for keeping calm. We have players we are experienced like Finch, Bravo, Faulkner and then Jakati, Tambe. FInch is ok, cramps maybe."
...
Dwayne Bravo: " It came quite close in the end, but credit to Aaron Finch. Credit goes to the management, captain and coach and we have gelled well together ."
...
Rohit Sharma: "We have to swallow this defeat, we did not have enough runs on the board and we let ourselves down, second time here now. 144 was always going to be tough, but the bowlers did well. Dew did come in later, the pitch was alright, 150-160 would have been par. Mitch bowled well, and we have to move forward. We never had any doubts about the crowd support. Southee and Krunal played well in the end to get us a good score."
...
What a thriller that was. At the halfway stage, it looked as though MI did not have enough but a decent start meant they were in the game. But when Raina and Finch were batting, it looked as though it was done and dusted by Mitchell McClenaghan kept his side in the game until the last over. Needing 11 off the last over, it was a battle of nerves and it was Finch that emerged victorious as Bumrah couldn't keep it under control and the Lions sealed a last-ball victory to make it three wins in a row.
...
19.6 Bumrah to Finch, FOUR, back of a length and Finch keeps his calm and then smashes it way over short mid-wicket who was in tight, and the ball scoots across for a boundary. Finch has his arms aloft and he is flying at the moment. Good on Mumbai for dragging it so far, but the Victorian emerges victorious.
...
Finch is all smiles ahead of the last ball. What will Bumrah bowl?
...
1 needed off the last ball. MI need a wicket to get that to the super over.
...
19.5 Bumrah to Finch, 2 runs, he smashes the ball to Pollard who hurls the ball in but Kulkarni is in. Wrong end from Pollard.
...
3 needed from two balls and the set batsman, Aaron Finch is on strike.
...
19.4 Bumrah to Kulkarni, 1 run, full bunger and Kulkarni drills it to long on.
...
The former MI player comes back to throw a spanner in the workers as he scores a crucial boundary to bring it down to 4 runs from three balls.
...
19.3 Bumrah to Kulkarni, FOUR, well take that says Kulkarni, the local but who lifts a length ball over mid off. He missed the yorker and Kulkarni was wide awake.
...
19.2 Bumrah to Finch, 1 run, tries to scoop this time but can only get a single to Bhajji, he is impeded by his hamstring.
...
8 needed off the last four balls.
...
Even with a dogdy hamstring, Finch runs two.
...
19.1 Bumrah to Finch, 2 runs, full ball and he is hit to wide of mid-wicket and Rayudu does well but Finch makes it back.
...
11 needed off the last over and Jasprit Bumrah will come out to bowl the over. Aaron Finch will be on strike but doesn't seem very capable of running. So it will have to be boundaries to finish the match.
...
18.6 McClenaghan to Finch, 1 run, bangs it in and Finch guides it to Bhajji at point who shies at the stumps. He misses, but why was no one at the stumps?
...
What will Finch do?
...
18.5 McClenaghan to Kulkarni, 1 run, slower ball and bunted to mid off for a single. Finch was not too keen to run but he had to.
...
Dhawal Kulkarni, who had played for MI before, comes out to bat at No.9 with his side needing 13 off 8 balls.
