Mauricio Pellegrino has confirmed Southampton are working on a deal to sign Spartak Moscow winger Quincy Promes.

Pellegrino revealed the two clubs are yet to agree a price, but when asked if he remained confident of signing the player, he said: "I don't know. We are waiting for an answer. We have got another five or six days to keep working and pushing, but we will see."

"He is an important player," Pellegrino added. "There are a lot of players I would like to bring in but he is one of the players that we are looking for."We have followed him many times and it is one possibility. We will be pushing until the end but we know that the market is not easy."

Lucas Moura believes a switch from Paris Saint-Germain to Tottenham in January could be the right move for him, according to Sky Sports News.

Spurs remain interested in the 25-year-old as a potential alternative to Malcom - a fellow Brazilian at Bordeaux, according to Sky sources.

Moura has been impressed with how Tottenham play and believes Mauricio Pochettino could be the right manager for him to progress his career.

However, a string of other clubs are also understood to be keen on the forward, with Sevilla now interested and Borussia Dortmund considering a move if they sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Jamie Vardy has revealed his takes speculation over his future insisting he is staying at Leicester.

“It doesn’t affect me,” he told Sky Sports News, when asked to comment on reports linking him with a January move.

“You just take it with a pinch of salt, it’s just rumours...I am here at Leicester, concentrating on Leicester until Leicester tell me otherwise.”

Asked if he is staying at the King Power Stadium, he added: “Yes, I’m here.”

Southampton are close to completing the signing of Guido Carrillo from Monaco, manager Mauricio Pellegrino has confirmed.

Pellegrino is hopeful of finalising the deal before the weekend."We are working really hard to try and move forward," he said. 

"Hopefully we can have some good news tomorrow, but still nothing has happened.

"We are confident. I think the player wants to come, to be part of our squad but the most important part of the negotiations are still there so we have to continue to work.”

Jose Mourinho says "Madrid is on fire" but poured cold water on reports Cristiano Ronaldo could return to Manchester United.

"I should be the last one to add some fuel to the fire," said Mourinho. "Madrid is on fire, the results are not good and it is a club where I worked three years. I care about the club and I don't want to add fire.

"To put some water on the fire I would say Cristiano is the kind of player every manager wants, every club wants.

"But only one manager can have and only one club can have - Zidane and Real Madrid, that's my feeling."

Real Madrid will only allow Cristiano Ronaldo to leave next summer if they succeed in bringing in Neymar.

Ronaldo reportedly wants to leave the Bernabeu at the end of the season and a return to Manchester United is his preferred destination.

Madrid will not place obstacles in his way as long as they receive a suitable offer for him, although his exit will depend upon whether or not they secure the services of Neymar from PSG. 

The European champions could even offer Ronaldo as a makeweight as part of their future attempts to sign the Brazilian.

Tottenham have been quiet so far in this transfer window but Mauricio Pochettino is remaining patient, despite watching many of the club’s top-six rivals making major moves.

Pochettino said: “You need to follow your way. You cannot look next to you, you must believe in the way that you want to create your philosophy and your project.

“Then what is going on next to us – yes, we are aware about that, but you cannot imitate and cannot do what another club are doing now.

“You need to be strong; you need to have personality, character and not be scared about what happens now. Sometimes you can drop a little bit but if you are strong enough, in the future you can win.”

Roma are in talks to sign Atletico Madrid attacker Yannick Carrasco on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

Arsenal and Chelsea had been linked with a move for Carrasco following reports Atletico are looking to offload the Belgium international.

But, with Edin Dzeko set to join Chelsea, Roma have moved for Carrasco and will offer €25m to sign the 24-year-old permanently at the end of his loan.

Real Madrid have informed David de Gea’s representative Jorge Mendes that they will try to sign him once again in the summer.

Madrid scrapped their plans to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao this month. However, they remain convinced that they need a new goalkeeper and are willing to go all out to sign De Gea at the end of the season.

It is believed the 27-year-old would cost Madrid around €100m this summer.

Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez was at the Emirates last night, to watch Arsenal beat Chelsea.

According to Sky Sports News there is no suggestion that his being at the game is in any way connected to a move away from Leicester.

Mahrez is still good friends with former teammate N’golo Kante, who played for Chelsea last night. We’ve been told the two met up after the game.
