FT The referee brings an end to the game. It ends 1-4 to Borussia Dortmund. Tuchel will be pleased with his side's performance, both the senior players as well as the youngsters. They were in control of the game from the first whistle right up until the end. Mourinho will learn from this game about what may and may not work in terms of his experimentation. After today's display, he probably won't rely on Depay to be his sole striker in the future. The manager won't be too disheartened by the loss, as he made clear before the game that it is more about fitness and experimentation than results in this game.

60' Goal for Mkhitaryan. Mata made his way into the box and then selflessly passed the ball to the Armenian as Romero charged toward him. Mkhitaryan simply had to tap the ball into the empty goal.

57' What a goal by Ousmane Dembele! He made a fool of Luke Shaw, then left Rojo on the floor, and beat Romero with a sweet strike.

56' United kept the ball for a few minutes, stringing passes together for once. The spell of possession led to a decent chance for Mkhitaryan, but he was unable to convert.

53' Bailly manages to steal the ball from Aubameyang, who had made his way into United's box yet again. The Gabon striker looks sharp as ever.

51' The Germans have picked up right where they left off, putting United under extreme pressure. Still no United players in the opposition half.

46' Dortmund have taken off Felix Passlack, whose place has been taken by Bruun Larsen.

46' Mkhitaryan played a good ball through to Luke Shaw who was in acres of space, but he let the ball get away from him. He's clearly still recovering from his extended layoff.

46' The second half starts, with United kicking off to get it underway. Young, Rojo and Rashford have replaced Lingard, Jones and Depay. There's a switch in goal as well, as Romero has replaced Johnstone between the sticks. Mourinho will be hoping that these fresh legs will be able to turn the tide of the game in their favour.

HT Dortmund are cruising. Thomas Tuchel's side have barely broken a sweat as the ref brings a close to the first half. Mourinho must change something in the second half to try and get back into the game. Right now, they may as well not be on the field.

45+2' Herrera plays a ball through to Depay, but the young Dutchman was unable to reach it. United lack the deadly final ball and are unable to pose any serious threat to Roman Weidenfeller so far.

45' The German side are certainly not taking it easy despite their two goal lead. They seem eager to score as many goals as they can. No signs of an ebb in their attacking play.

42' Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tries to beat Johnstone with a deft touch and a chip shot, but the keeper is able to keep it out.

40' Aubameyang attempts a left-footed volley, but fails to get it on target. It was a difficult chance.

38' Free kick for Manchester United. Sokratis makes a silly challenge on Depay, unnecessarily putting his team under pressure. Luckily for him, nothing came of it.

36' Goal for Aubameyang. He calmly puts the spot kick in the low right corner of the goal. Johnstone went the wrong way.

31' A quick water break. An opportunity for the coaches to give further instructions to their players, and for Depay to put his shoes back on .

30' United have 38% possession, and it looks like they're okay with that. Not too much pressure being applied on the Dortmund players on the ball, who are happy to keep passing it along their back four in the centre of the field.

27' Manchester United aren't seeing much of the ball. Dortmund have been selfish with possession. When United do get the ball, they give it away almost immediately.

23' Dortmund are spraying a lot of long passes into the final third, looking to beat United on the break. This seems to be their primary attacking tactic at present.

20' Goal by Castro. Aubameyang took a tame long range free kick. He took a direct shot which was deflected by Johnstone. A scuffle ensued in the box, and Castro managed to get to the ball and find the back of the net.

18' Dortmund are dominating possession and pressing high up the field. Not a single United player in the opposition half when they don't have the ball.
