48' Mkhitaryan attempts to play Rooney through on goal with an instinctive first time pass, but Burn defends well to snuff out the danger.

39' United set off on the counter, with Mata trying to pick out Martial at the far post - just as it seems we will get an opener, Connolly manages to produce an excellent defensive header on the run.

38' Fellaini gives away a free-kick for grabbing Morsy's leg. Wigan have a free-kick from the left, but Smalling clears the first delivery into the box, with Fellaini doing so the second time.

37' The Manchester United fans are audibly growing frustrated, as another move down the left breaks down after a wayward pass from Luke Shaw.

33' Rooney floats in a tempting free-kick from the right towards the far post, but Burn stands tall to clear the ball out for a corner. Wigan eventually manage to deal with the subsequent set-piece, but Manchester United keep up the pressure.

31' WELL THAT WAS THE MANCHESTER UNITED WE KNOW! Martial charges down the middle and sends Fosu-Mensah clear on the right wing. The right-back sends a low cross into the box, where all Mkhitaryan has to do is control his finish from a narrow angle, but he skews his effort over the bar.

30' I don't want to name he-who-shall-be-unnamed, but this has all been decidedly Louis van Gaal-esque so far. Manchester United have looked quite pedestrian, with Wigan full of energy.

28' Max Power sends in a peach of a ball, but Rojo manages to head the ball clear. Mkhitaryan attempts to set off on the counter, but Burn defies his frame to keep up with the Armenian and slide in with a clearing tackle.

26' Fosu-Mensah clearly shoves Jacobs to the floor, but escapes a yellow card. Either way, Wigan have a free-kick in a promising position on the right.

25' OOOOH! MAX POWER! He unleashes a swerving, dipping effort from about 40 yards out, with Romero doing well to take the sting off it by palming it into the ground and then collecting.

24' SHOT! Best chance of the game so far for United! Shaw floats the ball into the box, with Dan Burn's clearing header dropping to Mata on the penalty spot. He aims a first time volley at goal, but sends his effort well over the bar.

23' Midway through the first half, and Warren Joyce will be very pleased. Man United have had 70% of the possession so far, but cannot break down Wigan's defensive block.

21' Power, Jacobs and Connolly combine well down the left for Wigan, who look far more accomplished than a side who sit 18th in the Championship. They are let down with the final ball into the box, which Smalling clears with ease.

18' LUCKY! Romero and Rojo are both guilty of casual play after being pressed into making errors. Jacobs gets on the ball in the box, but a heavy touch allows Fellaini to intercept and clear the danger.
