Star Indian boxer MC Mary Kom is all set to add yet another medal to her tally, as she gets set for a semi final bout against Tsubasa Komura of Japan, in the Asian Women’s Boxing Championship, in Ho Chi Minh City, in Vietnam, on Tuesday.
Mary Kom has been one of the stellar boxers for India over the years, and has earned her country a number of medals in prestigious international events. She has already won four gold medals, and a silver in the Asian Women’s Boxing Championship previously, and will be looking to add to that tally on Tuesday.
Having already made her way to the semi final stage of the tournament, Mary Kom has already secured herself a bronze medal in light flyweight (48 kg) category of the competition.
Mary Kom had come face to face with Meng-Chieh Pin of the Chinese Taipei in the quarter final, a bout that she won in a split verdict, to make her way to the last four stage of the competition.
This performance comes as a huge boost to Mary Kom, who had missed the 2016 Rio Olympics, last year. In fact, this will the first medal that she will win in more than a year, now.
However, Mary Kom has looked a little rusty in this tournament, and had, in fact, gotten off to a rather poor start against Pin in the quarter finals. However, a good showing in the last round earned her a the split decision victory, and a place in the semi finals.
