The Mariners secured a critical victory to climb to the top of CFL 2017 table, and to leapfrog their arch rivals, East Bengal. The hosts made a mediocre start which was worsened when the visitors scored the first goal of the game. Despite the initial threat, MB pulled back the equalizer just on the brink of half time. The second half witnessed a lot of turnover in possession and MB needed to be more ruthless in front of goal. However, a comprehensive performance saw the Maroon and Green Army seal the mini-derby.
