Good afternoon and welcome to Sportskeeda's LIVE athletics blog.

In the track & field events, our focus now is on Murali Sreeshankar, who is India's lone participant in the long jump event.

The national record holder and sixth top jumper in Asia will be in action in less than an hour from now.

Murali Sreeshankar has trained under his father S. Murali, a former triple jump athlete and South Asian Games silver medalist.

He is currently 35th in the World Athletics rankings and the 22-year-old has been training at the recently-built synthetic track stadium at Government Medical College in Palakkad, Kerala.

Sreeshankar broke his own national record with a mark of 8.26m at the 24th Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships in Patiala this year.

That earned him an Olympics 2021 berth.
