What a fitting finale for India's campaign to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics! After all the emotional highs and some heartbreaking finishes, we finally had an Indian athlete on the top of the podium to close out the Day 13 of play!

We, at Sportskeeda, have felt nothing but immense joy and it has been an absolute pleasure bringing you all the live coverage. We hope you enjoyed all the action, as much as we did, covering it for you!

That's all from our side now, but let us all ensure that this Olympic Games is the start of a new era, one where we follow our athletes year round through their journey and offer our support! Let's give it up to the Indian contingent one last time! Goodbye and stay safe!

18:51 (IST)7 AUG 2021

It's been a proud campaign for India, and with Neeraj Chopra's medal, the journey for our Indian Athletes comes to an end in the Tokyo Olympics 2020! We've seen some heartbreaks in the shooting events, with top ranked Indians bowing out early. We've seen a heartbreak for Sindhu, who was so close in making that final of the Olympics.

In wrestling too, we've seen Bajrang fall short in his semi's. The semi finals have not been kind to us, and we've lost out on some medals, but it has been an incredible performance from our champions. Ravi Kumar Dahiya, and Mirabai Chanu, falling just short of a gold, but a silver is nothing short of a milestone too! All credits to Lovlina too, who gave in her best and made it to the semi finals, but again, it was not meant to be there.

But in one sport, India have surpassed expectations, and have rebirthed the craze for Hockey. The men's team, after an embarrassing thumping to Australia came back, fought hard, and earned the bronze! But the biggest surprise package, were the Women's Hockey team! Out of nowhere, they came in, made qualifications, competed neck to neck with the best sides in the world, and almost won a bronze!

A salute to all our athletes, for all the efforts they put in, the hard work they put in, the criticism they go through, but to all of them, if they are reading, we are all proud of you! India is blessed to have you lot representing the nation, and we cannot begin to express the gratitude we have for you! So do not give up, because we will not stop supporting you. We will be here like always, cheering for you, rooting for you, and supporting you through thick and thin!

He only bettered his first throw with an even better score of 87.58 which was enough to secure him the gold. No one else managed to come close to him.

Vetter who was the favourite, did not make it into the last 8, as he had a horrific outing with a best of just 82.52! The Czech Republic duo of Jakub Vadlejch and Vitezslav Vesely were the surprise package, surpassing expectations, and scoring their season best to finish on 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

India have waited patiently, and Neeraj Chopra has brought the utmost satisfaction with his Gold Medal! The first ever for India in Athletics! After 2008, an Indian Athlete takes the top spot, and oh it has been a long wait!
