There was disappointment for Jyothi Yarraji, however, as she finished fourth in the women's 100m hurdles repechage and failed to qualify for the semifinals. It wasn't to be for wrestler Anshu Malik either as she lost her RO16 clash before her opponent lost her semifinal bout to deny Malik a shot at a bronze via repechage.
Both Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar are tied 14th at the end of Round 2 in the women's golf event and they will want to climb up the table tomorrow. But there was better news elsewhere as wrestler Aman Sehrawat won his RO16 and quarterfinal bouts without dropping a point - both on technical superiority - even as he went down in the semis in similar fashion. He will play his bronze medal match tomorrow and look to add a first wrestling medal. Of course, there's no verdict yet on Vinesh Phogat's appeal and time will tell as to whether she will get her joint silver or not.
But today belongs to Neeraj Chopra and the Indian men's hockey team. Chopra may not have defended his gold but it was down to Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem smashing the Olympic Record and setting a freakish benchmark. Chopra's throw of 89.45m was comfortable enough to hand him a silver as he etched himself into history as the first Indian to win two Athletics medals at the Olympics. And PR Sreejesh got a fitting farewell with India defeating Spain 2-1 to retain their bronze. A day that billions of Indian supporters will gladly take after the misery of Wednesday!
Lots to look forward to once again tomorrow (today really) - Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar will resume with Round 3 of the golf event while Aman Sehrawat will look to add a bronze. And there's the men's and women's 4x400m qualification as well. There are still medals out there for the taking so do make sure you're back with us and cheering wholeheartedly for the Indian contingent. Until then, on behalf of all of us here at Sportskeeda, we wish you a good night. See you soon!
