PV Sindhu progresses to quarter-finals

PV Sindhu made the most of her experience in her Round of 16 match as she beat Denmark's Mia Blichfeldt 21-15, 21-13 in straight sets in the women's singles badminton match. She will either face South Korea's Kim Ga-eun or Japan's Akane Yamaguchi in the quarter-finals.

Sindhu suffered a small scare in the first set as her Danish opponent mounted a comeback. The scoreline went from 13-8 to 16-15 in a matter of minutes. However, Sindhu's resilience saw her winning five points in succession.

In the second set, Sindhu didn't let her guard drop for a bit as she slowly and steadily extended the lead to have nine match points in her hand. While Mia was managed to save two of them, she succumbed in the next.

There it is. Sindhu gets it just above the net and Mia leaves it thinking it will go wide. But, to her surprise, it is in. The scream from Sindhu tells it all. She has qualified to the quarter-finals without dropping a single set.
