PV Sindhu crashes out of the Semi Finals, losing to arch nemesis Tai Tzu-Ying in straight sets!

Well then, the silver medalist of the Olympic Games 2016, Pusarla V. Sindhu crashes out in the semi finals of the Olympic Games 2020. She still has a shot at the bronze medal against He Bing Jiao tomorrow, and she will want to win that game more than anything in the world. In the second game, pressure was on Sindhu, and a few errors proved to be too many at the end. Tai Tzu-Ying made errors too, but as the game progressed, she ws more clinical, and was sticking to her strengths. Here's a snap of the stats.

Sindhu was unable to use her smashes as much as she would have liked to, because Tai was rarely giving her any room to, but Sindhu, when given the chance, was taking it with open arms. Apart from the smashes, Sindhu was matching Tai's drop shots with dtop shots of her own, but a few too many errors cost Sindhu a lot at the end.

Tai's backhand was another formidable weapon that was no match for Sindhu at times. Tai was quick, brutal and accurate with picking her shots, and was able to dictate terms as per her wish. Sindhu was no less from Tai, as at the start Sindhu was using the court really well, making Tai go to all corners of it, and force an error for Tai, but soon Tai turned the same page over Sindhu, and did it for a little longer.

At the end, Tai Tzu-Ying made a few errors as well, especially with those drop shots, but it was too late for Sindhu to capitalize on it and force a comeback. Apart from that, Tai used the drop shot quite effectively, especially when she was bluffing Sindhu, showing her a clear shot, but ending up with a drop shot. Sindhu fell for it a couple of times, but later started doing much better against the drop shots.

The second game saw a completely different form of Tai Tzu-Ying, who took her game to another level and was impenetrable. Sindhu was matching it at the start, for the initial 5-6 point, but Tai won the next 5 points in line and took a significant lead into the mid game break. Post that it was a huge mountain to climb for Sindhu. Few shots didn't work her way, a few clear shots were just long, a couple of drop shots failed to clear the net, and one point at a time, Tai inched closer to the victory, which seemed inevitable after one point.

Sindhu started the first game on the front foot, looking formidable with her drives and defending well. She had the lead for most part of the first game and was looking stubborn, not giving away easy points. She was forcing Tai Tzu-Ying to play wide and force errors. Although, Tai took her time, and set in her groove. She played the patient game, and forced a comeback late in the first game to get the better of Sindhu. Sindhu pushed the first game, and was ahead well into the 18th point. But at the crunch time, Tai charged up, and used her drop shots to good use to inch past Sindhu and clinch the first game.

Well, so that was a huge win for Tai Tzy-ying as she secures her first medal at a big event. Sindhu on the other hand will push for bronze tomorrow. After a very competitive and end to end first game, Tai outplayed Sindhu in the second. With the scoreline of 21-18, 21-12, Tai will play for the gold medal tomorrow against Chen Yufei.

Another heartbreak for India here, as P.V. Sindhu loses the semi finals! A formidable performance from world number 1 Tai Tzu-Ying, who makes this look easier than it was. She wraps up the game in a total of 40 minutes, and makes it into her first Olympic Game finals, and has an opportunity to clinch the gold. For P.V. Sindhu, it's unfortunate, after playing so well throughout her campaign, not to make it into the finals but she still has a chance at a medal. Tomorrow she will feature in the Bronze Medal match and has an opportunity to clinch that!
