In all honesty, Real Madrid deserved to win that. But Atleti are what Atleti are exactly because of these kind of matches.

59' OW! That came out of nothing! After a bit of head tennis in the Real Madrid third, the ball bounces to Saul who controls it well on his chest, before turning on a dime and lashing a shot that goes straight at Navas

58' Real Madrid are pressing with near- Bielsa-esque intensity of the ball (everyone, including the BBC) and it's paying off. Atleti look utterly dazed here.

The Brazilian lifts it up... and CRISTIANO RONALDO WINS THE HEADER, AND GUIDES IT WELL WIDE. Given the undoubted heading abilities of the man, that counts as a golden opportunity missed

After a fascinating first half that is poised at a knife-edge, both teams remain within reach of the all-important three points. Real Madrid have edged it in terms of opportunities created, and possession in the right areas... but Atleti have shown just how good they are at organising defenses... and pulling off counterattacks.
