PEEP! PEEP! FULLTIME

Real Madrid 2 - 0 Club America

A goal late in the first half and another late in the second half gives Madrid a win that they really had to scrap it out for. Benzema scored - as he always does. Ronaldo did too - as he always does.

Club America fought hard, but lacked the cutting edge that is required against sides of the calibre of the European champs.

Kashima Antlers, watch out - the trophy gobbling machines that are Zizou, Ronnie and Madrid are on their way.

It was a pleasure covering this match, thank you for reading!

Toodle-ooo

...

Calm down Madridistas. The Goal stands.

...

OH WAIT. The ref has called for a video replay.

...

THAT IS HOW YOU DO IT. Ronaldo is played in by a cute little ball from James, and he smacks it in.

...

94' GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!!! RONALDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

...

93' Morata tries to pick out Ronaldo with an audacious outside-of-the-boot chance, but nothing doing.

...

92' OH! FOR THIS!! Sambueza swings in a lovely cross to the far post that Arroyo is mere centimetres away from heading.

...

91' Three minutes of added time. For what?

...

89' Aguilar bosses Ronaldo once again, but concedes a throw. From it Morata turns with the grace of a ballet dancer (just wow) and he lays it off Lucas Vazquez. The forward can't get his shot away.

...

88' Varane brings out his party tricks as he sells a dummy to Arroyo with the ease of Leo di Caprio selling bad stocks in Wolf of Wall Street. The ball is worked out to Morata - who turns on a dime, and sends a curler that misses the far post by inches

...

86' Marcelo bombs down the left, and sends in a delicious cross that just misses the leaping Cristiano Ronaldo.

...

85' Samudio puts in a brilliant tackle to stop Ronaldo's raid down the right wing. But Madrid have the ball back.

...

84' Marcelo tries to play in James Rodriguez, but ends up hitting the Colombian on his backside. Yeah. Sums up the last five minutes, does that.

...

83' Do something, someone. Pretty please?

...

81' Lucas Vazquez races into the box, but Aguilar keeps apace with him and cuts out the cross intended for Ronaldo. The corner from James is useless

...

79' Substitution for Madrid as Benzema is taken off for Alvaro Morata. This kind of feisty encounter is custom-built for the scrappy Spaniard. He'll love it.

...

78' OH! Benzema and Carvajal play some lovely football and the latter runs in behind the defence, but his touch lets him down. Club America counter immediately and William Da Silva outpaces Varane (never the easiest of tasks) and dinks in a teasing cross that flies just behind the onrushing Miguel Arroyo.

...

77' There are 50,000 + people in the Nissan Stadium right now, and they are being treated to some pretty average fare.

...

75' Vazquez sends in a teasing little ball that Aguillar outjumps Ronaldo for! Marvellous display of aerial defending being put on by the Mexican here.

...

74' Benzema, Ronaldo and Vazquez all have touches within the penalty box before the latter lays it off to Luka Modric. The Croat unleashes one from the edge of the box, but it's straight at Munoz - whose handled these long-range howitzers with ease.

...

71' Zizou doesn't like what he's seeing so he takes of World Cup Winner Toni Kroos to replace him with World Cup Golden Boot James Rodrigues. The embarrassment of riches that he has at his disposal is simply astounding.

...

70' More scrappiness ensues. Seriously. That's all that's happening.

...

67' This is supremely scrappy now. Possession is being interchanged with the crazy frequency. America's substitution as their top scorer of this season Silvio Romero is taken off for Miguel Arroyo.

...

66' America are pressing like a ferocious wolf pack. Unlike the wolves of fable though there's no end-product.

...

65' That was a rather ludicrous miss from all concerned. Horrible defending, and horrible communication between Ronaldo and Benzema. Samudio stops Carvajal in his tracks to stop another Madrid attack

...

64' WHAT. HOW. WHAT. HOW. Vazquez swings in a lovely little ball that Benzema should head it into the empty net. Ronaldo is leaping behind him - Benzema misses - and Cristiano Ronaldo heads it back into the penalty box from three yards out. I repeat.. WHAT. HOW. WHAT. HOW.

...

63' Bruno Valdez shows Ronaldo why they call him the "hardman" in Mexico as he shoulder barges the bones off the Portuguese superstar. He's a tough one though, the superstar

...

62' OW OW Samudio swings in a lovely ball that Navas does well to bat away. Great delivery, that!

...

61' Quintero on for Club America as the Mexican giants try to claw their way back. Romero does his bit by bullying Marcelo and Nacho into conceding a freekick in a dangerous position.

...

60' Casemiro breaks down another America attack and Real counter. Ronaldo carves the Mexicans wide open with a lovely ball to Vazquez. The Spaniard returns it to the Portuguese and he unleashes a missile that Munoz bats away exceptionally well.

...

59' Modric lays it off to Benzema, who is bullied off the ball by Guerrero with contemptuous ease. He then sprays a glorious Xabi-esque crossfield ball to Valdez down the right, but Marcelo stands his ground.

...

57' Benzema wastes a dangerous counter by overplaying the pass forward to Ronaldo. Cristiano's look of disgust should be taught in Film Schools. Magnifique!

...

56' Guerreiro and Romero get in each others' way as they try to race on to a Valdez lay off. They really don't need more people trying to stop them.

...

55' Valdez bombs down the right and sends it into the box, but Madrid counter at pace - Ronaldo wastes it by hammering it at goal from nigh on thirty yards. May have broken a rib, or two, that.

...

54' Alvarado goes OFF as Jose Guerrero jogs ON. A central defender taken of for a central midfielder - not exactly the kitchen sink, but a positive move nonetheless

...

53' America try to triangulate their way out of trouble, tiki-taka style, but a poor touch from Iborra lets the Mexicans down.

...

52' Madrid counter, and win a freekick at the other end. Toni Kroos sends in a lovely little ball that is met well by Benzema, but the header thumps wide.

...

51' America probe again, this time through William Da Silva, but Raphael Varane holds form. The Frenchman fits into that generic description of a smooth defender - a Rolls Royce of a defender - with consummate ease, doesn't he?

...

50' Ronaldo and Benzema are in on goal with only the goalie to beat, but both of them were well Offside.

...

48' Nothing to show for it yet, but it's a step in the right direction.

...

47' Club America are in a belligerent mood though, and are in no mood in to lie down and take euthanasia. Thye press ferociously up the pitch till the win the ball back, and attack the Madrid goal with trademark directness.

...

46' Real Madrid start the second half much like they started the first - taking the ball out wining and dining

...

PEEP! We're off again!

...

Karim Benzema is the first Real Madrid player to score in two different Club World Cups. What an underrated star he is, no? Write in with your opinions on the half, and hopes for the next to anirudh.menon@sportskeeda.com or tweet me @animenon19

...

PEEP! PEEP! HALFTIME!

Real Madrid 1 - 0 Club America

A Karim Benzema finish has given Madrid the lead, and America will need to move up the gears if they are to hope to have a chance in hell.

...

There ends the Mexican resistance. Kroos passes it into the path of Benzema, and the Frenchman smacks it right into the roof of the net from ten yards out. WOOF.

...

47' GOOOOOOOOOAL! BENZEMA!!!!!!

...

46' One minute of added time

...

44' Marcelo tries to do that by smacking it into the box, butt that man Aguilar is there again to head it brilliantly off the forehead of Benzema. Vital interception.

...

42' Ronaldo tries an extravagant backheel to Modric but Aguillar is so immensely strong in his challenge. Madrid have flattered, but largely deceived. They need to up the tempo if they are to break down the stubborn Mexicans.
