Thank you for joining us today. We'll be back with more live coverage of Vikas Krishan on Saturday at 3.45am IST when he fights in the round of 16

03:11 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Vikas Krishan pulls off a solid victory over a solid fighter. And he puts India on the map in boxing at Rio 2016. The judges scored it 29-28 throughout the board

03:09 (IST)10 AUG 2016

The Winner by Unanimous Decision is VIKAS KRISHAN!

03:09 (IST)10 AUG 2016

We await the decision by the judges, fingers crossed!

03:08 (IST)10 AUG 2016

The clock runs out on an uneventful third round, but Vikas Krishan may have edged this fight. Just. But he may have just done enough

03:08 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Close round till now, hard to call

03:07 (IST)10 AUG 2016

The American seems to be working more here but Vikas is maintaining distance and looks to be coasting. He pivots and goes to the body as Conwell tries to close the distance

03:06 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Both fighters seem cautious as the third round starts. Conwell is trying to close the distance with a jab and following with a straight right but Vikas has displayed good head movement

03:05 (IST)10 AUG 2016

For my money, its 1-1 as we head into the 3rd and final round

03:04 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Vikas looks good in this round, and is getting his uppercut to land. Conwell is ducking into that. Vikas wasn't throwing it in the first round and started in the second. Round 2 in the books. Looks like Vikas took that one!

03:03 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Better so far by Vikas as he's finding Conwell more with the left uppercut. Vikas also goes to the body here.

03:02 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Vikas seems quicker here, and is landing a check right hook as he pivots away just as Conwell comes in. Big uppercut by Vikas! He's landed that twice now into the ducking Conwell

03:02 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Conwell seems quicker to the draw here, but Vikas seems to be more willing to trade

03:01 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Conwell opens with a 1-2 that is blocked

03:01 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Vikas has to come out strong in Round 2

03:00 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Vikas seems light on his feet but neither man has really grabbed this round yet. They're still trying to find a way through the other's defences. They clinch to end the round, but perhaps Conwell edges that through slightly superior dirty boxing in the clinch

02:59 (IST)10 AUG 2016

VIkas Krishan seems to be fluid on his feet, but Conwell seems to be good with bobbing out of the centre line and he's trying for a short left hook that's missing narrowly for now

02:58 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Krishan the southpaw against the orthodox Conwell. They try to establish range but neither man has yet to land a telling shot

02:57 (IST)10 AUG 2016

And Round 1 starts!

02:57 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Charles Conwell is a 2-time National Youth Champion. VIkas has his hands full. Looks like the crowd is dead against Conwell here, as a chorus of boos greet his introduction.

02:55 (IST)10 AUG 2016

And Vikas Krishan fights next, against Charles Conwell!

02:52 (IST)10 AUG 2016

And expectedly, Hossam takes it. Easy fight for him in reality , as he moves on to the next round

02:51 (IST)10 AUG 2016

The 3rd Round times out as Hossam raises his hand. Don't think there is much of a question here about who won this fight.

02:50 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Hossam is mixing up his body strikes well with the punches to the head, and just manages to move away when Merven Clair attempts to return fire. Good boxing by the Egyptian

02:49 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Every time Clair attempts to throw a flurry of punches, Hossam manages to close the distance and holds on to him. Good way to smother the opponent's attacking intent

02:48 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Round 3 starts, and Hossam is 2 rounds up for my money. Merven Clair has to get a knockdown or two here

02:47 (IST)10 AUG 2016

There seems to be a skill differential here, and it seems pretty obvious as Round 2 clocks out.

02:46 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Hossam's head movement has been exemplary; he just seems to be out of the way when Clair leaves that jab hanging out and he's finding those straight right counters through his guard almost everytime

02:45 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Round 2 starts with Clair looking to walk down Hossam, but the Egyptian is ready for him. Sharp lead rights penetrate his guard as it seems increasingly like Clair is overmatched in skill

02:43 (IST)10 AUG 2016

By far, he seemed to be the more active fighter and surely landed more than his opponent.

02:43 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Hossam is going head-body-head and it seems like he's landing more frequently. Merven Clair is a southpaw, but he seems reluctant to throw his left cross. Hossam edges that first round for me

02:41 (IST)10 AUG 2016

They start off cautiously, with neither man willing to close to distance and stand in the pocket. Clair seems more mobile and is trying to circle away, but Hossam's looping right hook is catching him

02:40 (IST)10 AUG 2016

In case you are interested, the bout that is being telecasted now is between Hossam from Egypt and Merven Clair from Mauritius

02:35 (IST)10 AUG 2016

This makes for more exciting fights as fighters can afford to throw down more than they would be comfortable in, in a 12 round professional format.

02:33 (IST)10 AUG 2016

Unlike in professional boxing, where competitors have the luxury of coasting through rounds once they secure an unassailable lead in their minds, the 3 round format of Olympic boxing ensures that boxers go out and try to maximise their output in the shorter window

02:25 (IST)10 AUG 2016

With Shiva Thapa facing a tough draw, much of India's hopes in boxing rests on the broad shoulders of Vikas Krishan, who goes up against a decorated athlete in Conway from the USA.
