Seema Punia has finished her round of qualification and it looks highly unlikely that she will qualify. Awaiting official confirmation though. Still a few throws left.
Seema Punia's three attempts - 57.58, x, 56.78
Seema Punia throws 56.78 in her third attempt. It looks all but over for the Indian here.
Seema Punia has had two attempts so far - throwing 57.58 in first and fouling in the second.
She has now slipped down to 9th place in Group B and displaced by Karen Gallardo, who threw 57.81 in her first attempt.
Viewers should remember that Punia is 8th in her Group and not overall.
Seema Punia's third attempt should be coming right up!!! This is big and will determine if she stays or goes.
Julia Fischer throws 60+ again but it is not better than 61.83. She should still qualify though.
Seema Punia is currently on 8th and has one attempt remaining.

Seema Punia's chances look quite bleak now and she will need to dig out something huge if she has to qualify for the finals.
This is not looking good for the Indian here and she has just one more attempt left, which Seema Punia will need to make count.

The best throw of the night belongs to Yaime Perez, who managed 65.38.
Seema Punia's second attempt coming up soon and she is carrying the hopes of more than a billion Indians here, who might be just waking up to catch hold of her performance.
She has two more attempts remaining and if she can manage a 60+ throw, her chances of qualifying would increase tremendously. Come on Seema!!!
All athletes in Group B have attempted the throw at least once and Seema Punia is on 8th position.
Natalia Semenova from Ukraine, who had produced a foul attempt first, throws 58.41 to move to 6th spot in the group.
Just to remind our readers, a throw of 62.00 meters means automatic qualification and so far 8 athletes (4 from Group A and 4 from Group B) have qualified.
Remember friends, Seema Punia threw more than 62 to qualify for the Olympics. She needs something similar here.
The seeds are showing their excellent abilities and have secured qualification. Seema Punia needs to throw 60+ to have a good chance of qualifying for the finals.

GROUP B is turning out to be a fantastic one and athletes seem to be making full use of dry conditions.
FIRST QUALIFICATION FROM GROUP B- World No. 4 Yaime Perez produces a marvelous attempt of 65.38 and she has booked a finals spot. Never a doubt. She has thrown the farthest among all tonight. A great contender for the gold medal.
Performing in such a huge stadium can be a daunting task, especially in a foreign country but that is what the big stage is all about.
World No. 6 Julia Fishcer throws and NEARLY QUALIFIES in her first attempt with a 61.83. SOOO CLOSEEEE!!! She shows there why her ranking is 6 in the world. Excellent throw.
Subenrat Insaeng breaks the trend and she throws a decent 56.64.
Something seems to be wrong here as there are a lot of foul attempts on display.
Rocio Comba from Argentina throws and it is yet another foul attempt.
Sabina Asenjo from Spain throws 56.94 in her first attempt to occupy top spot in Group B for the moment. Early days though.
Natalia Semenova from Ukraine starts proceedings for Group B with a foul throw. Not too auspicious.

The event is set to begin and here are a few interesting facts for our viewers.
Looking at world rankings, Seema Punia (34) has relatively less chances of making it to the finals but you never know what happens.
World No. 3 Nadine Muller will be in action in Group B along with Cuban Yaime Perez, who is ranked 4th in the world.
We are about to get underway and Seema Punia will be in action shortly.
However, Seema Punia has tons of experience and is a seasoned athlete. Here is hoping she can be an aberration and an athletics campaign, which has looked disappointing at best for the Indian athletics contingent.
The Indian athletics campaign has been a bit disappointing so far with none of the athletes doing well in particular.
Meanwhile, looking at a hurdles race, you have to feel gutted for those who falter on the biggest stage and only imagine the travesty they must go through.
