Khushbir Kaur finished the race in 54th position with a time of 1:40:33. Sapna Punia, the other Indian in the race, did not complete the race and dropped out of the race at the 8km mark.
The two Indians did superbly well to qualify for the Olympics, but they would be a tad disappointed at not improving on their personal bests.
There are several athletes still in the race, grimacing in pain, but determined to finish the race. This is what the Olympics is all about! Simply great to see!!

Hong finished the race at 1:28:35 and was closely followed by Gonzalez with a time of 1:28:37.

A medal for Kaur is highly unlikely, but she will be gunning for a national record and to beat her own time.

16km! The leaders have picked up pace again, amazingly!! They cross the 16km mark at 1:11:43. Just 8 minutes to cover 2km!
Kaur is in 54th position after the 14km mark. She crossed the 14km mark with a time of 1:09:00, 5:59 behind the leader.
The Indian Khusbir Kaur has 1 warning for a bent knee. Two more infractions and she'll be disqualified.
She's got to focus and try to break her own record of 1:33:07.

14km! The Chinese are leading the race. Gonzalez from Mexico is sandwiched between three Chinese athletes at the head of the race.
It's the end of the day for Sapna Punia. She's out of the race. Khushbir Kaur is in 49th place after the 12km mark.
Several athletes are grimacing from pain after running in the heat and having covered 12kms.
The humidity is at a high 81%!!
The course has sprinklers spraying water to keep the athletes cool.
12km! The leaders have now moved past the 12km mark. A smaller bunch at the front is being formed. Xiuzhi Lu, Gonzalez and Hong Liu are slowly pulling away.
The other Indian Sapna Punia has dropped off the ranking! She hasn't crossed the 10km mark.
Khusbir Kaur crossed the 10km mark at 47:35. She is in 48th place.
This race is going to go down to the last 100 metres!
10km! The leaders cross the 10km mark at 45:24. The leaders are still closely bunched up in the front.
An athlete is down! This might be just walking, but the heat and the distance takes a toll on the body.
43 minutes into the race, there is a group of 20 athletes bunched up and leading the race.
The athletes are beginning to struggle now. It is very easy to lose concentration and get an infraction from the referees.
The Indians cross the 8km timing beam with a time of 37:43. Kaur and Punia are 48th and 49th respectively.
Remember, the first three in the race win medals.
The leaders have crossed the 8km mark! Several athletes in the front have bunched up and cross the line with a time of 36:25.
So, how does an athlete not get disqualified from the race - One foot of the athlete must be on the ground when the other is lifted. The front leg must also straighten when it touches the ground.
35 minutes into the race, two athletes have been disqualified from the race for infractions.
The Indians are 38 seconds behind the leader.
Xiuzhi Lu is leading the pack and is followed by Drahotova of Czech Republic and Hong of China.
They crossed the 6km mark with a time of 28:04 and 28:05.
Kaur and Punia have moved up and are in 45th and 46th place respectively.
The pace is quickening up!
The opening pack just cross the 6km mark at 27:26.
The yellow cards/paddles haven't come out as often so far. The walkers are going by the book!
The leading group of walkers are opening a gap from the rest of the pack. They seem to be in a league of their own.
China's Hong Liu and Xiuzhi Lu are following closely behind the leader.
