...

We have come to the end of Sportskeeda's live coverage of the 2016 Rio Olympics with this marathon and I must say there is tremendous hope for Indian sports in the future. The marathon runners have shown us today what they can do with the kind of facilities they get. Should they get more than what they receive at present, wonder where they can reach. Eliud Kipchoge produced the race of his life to show why he is regarded as one of the best modern day marathon runners. Absolutely superb from him. However, from the Indian perspective, this has been quite a superb event to end the 2016 Rio Olympics and I hope the fire continues to burn and does not die down.

...

Nitendra Singh has finished 83rd with a timing of 2:22:52

...

This has been some amazing stuff from the Indian duo. They have both produced their personal best timings.

Kheta Ram - 2:15:26 (Personal Best)
Gopi Thankal - 2:15:25 (Personal Best)

...

WHAT A FINISH FROM T Gopi and Kheta Ram.

Kheta Ram - 25th
T Gopi - 26th

...

We have the medal winners ladies and gentlemen:

Eliud Kipchoge has produced some stunning acceleration in the last moments to finish the marathon in 2:08:44

...

HE HAS DONE IT!!!! KIPCHOGE IS THE OLYMPIC CHAMPION. GLORIOUS GLORIOUS. LOOK AT THE SMILE

...

He is edging toward the finish here.

...

Kipchoge looks to be in his zone and is on his way to a gold medal. He has absolutely destroyed it in the second half. He can smell gold here.

...

Indian racers are yet to complete 40km.

...

What a scintillating performance this has been from Kipchoge.

...

...

I must say the performance from Indians Kheta ram and Gopi Thanakal has been heartening here.

...

We are getting closer and closer to the finish here. Will Kipchoge keep his wits and finish on top?

...

Kheta Ram has climbed 15 spots to take 37th spot. Nitendra Singh is yet to complete 35 km

...

The surge from Gopi Thanakal continues and he has acquired the 34th position here. Fantastic from Gopi. He is making India really proud.

...

Top 3 after 35km:

1. Eliud Kipchoge - 1:47:40
2. Feyisa Lilesa - 1:47:41
3. Galen Rupp - 1:47:41

...

AND HE LEADS. Eliud Kipchoge shows who is boss at the 35km mark.

...

Considering what little our athletes get in terms of facilities, money and infrastructure, is this not simply superb from Gopi Thanakal?

...

I must say the performance from Gopi Thankal has been more than impressive and being 39th in a competition of 155 athletes is some feat. Add to that you are competing with the world's best, who have a lineage of marathon runners in their respective countries, his run has been superb.

...

Kipchoge had fallen back but he has got his mojo back and is doing really well. He is currently tied for first place. Can he surge ahead ?

...

Kheta Ram is 52nd and Nitendra Singh is 93rd.

...

Gopi Thanakal is in 39th position at the moment and has completed 30 km in 1:34:59.

...

Feyisa Lilesa has literally come out of nowhere and climbed 15 places to reach a top 3 spot.

...

That is simply fantastic and to have top three on the same timing is amazing.

...

To say something a little off-topic, the setting of this marathon is stunning and the geographical beauty is quite breathtaking.

...

We are about to complete 20 km here in the Men's Marathon.

...

Nitendra Singh and Kheta Ram are 73rd and 74th, respectively.

...

Look at that from Gopi Thanakal, the Indian has climbed up 14 positions to reach 56th spot. He has completed 15km in 47:03
