Sameer Verma is the first one from the Verma family to reach the semi-finals of the 2016 Bitburger Open. Can his brother follow in his footsteps and make it double delight for the Vermas? We have to wait a bit more to know that.
And he has converted the very first one as he wraps up the match with a 21-14, 21-16 win!!!
Verma has finally found a way to breach the Pochtarov defence and has jumped to 20-16 with four match points in hand.
This continues to be quite a gritty and hard-fought contest. Verma is still in the lead, 17-16.
Sameer's persistence has paid off and he has wrested control now even though the Ukrainian is still putting up a great fight. Verma is ahead, 13-12.
The Ukrainian has cut down on his errors and is playing a lot more consistently now. At the mid-game interval, he is the one who is ahead by a slim margin, 11-10.
Pochtarov continues to maintain his one point-lead over the Indian. He is currently ahead, 8-7.
Sameer has closed in now and has made it 5-6. It is just a one-point gap between them now.
Just like the first game, Pochtarov has once more taken an early lead of 4-2. Can he build on it this time?
The Ukrainian tried his best and snatched three more points but that is all he could do. Brimming with confidence, Sameer Verma wrapped up the opening game, 21-14
Pochtarov provided some resistance and managed to win three points as he reduced the gap to 11-17.
It has been all Sameer and he is looking extremely confident and unstoppable at the moment. Currently he sits at an advantage of 15-8.
Since levelling the game, it has been a one-way traffic with the Indian clearly dominating the opener. Verma has jumped to a 9-4 advantage and is absolutely not allowing his opponent to play his natural game.
But Sameer is unfazed by it and engages his opponent in long rallies to extract errors from his racquet. The tactic worked and he is back into this match at 4-4.
The match is under way and it is the lower-ranked Pochtarov who makes a fast start as he surges to a 4-2 lead over the 12th seed.
