Sourav Ganguly says Cheteshwar Pujara and Murali Vijay should open the innings for India in the third Test

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly made an interesting statement on Saturday while talking to ESPNCricinfo regarding the first day's play of the third Test in Mohali. The left-hander claimed that the Indian team should look into the option of opening the innings with Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara since Lokesh Rahul was not in the team.

He ruled out the idea of Parthiv Patel opening the innings stating his lack of international games and said that Pujara was the ideal man for partnering Vijay at the top of the order due to his experience and current form. He said, "I am really surprised to hear that Parthiv is going to open the innings. I would have actually pushed Pujara to open and play Karun Nair at number three position."

Ganguly also said that the Indian team consisted of too many bowlers in the squad. He said, "India have too many fast bowlers in the squad. Maybe instead of Ishant Sharma or Bhuvneshwar Kumar or Hardik Pandya the management should have picked another batsman. There are too many bowlers in that camp."

Sachin's oldest fan passes away

Mary Serrao, the woman considered to be Sachin Tendulkar's oldest fan, has passed away at the age of 93. Born on April 24, the same date as Tendulkar, Serrao managed to meet Sachin in Mumbai when he was shooting for a commercial in 2009. She was also present at the Wankhede stadium during Sachin's last ever Test match in 2013.

Sachin took to Twitter to grieve the loss of his special fan by posting a collage of their pictures together, with the caption: "Remember going to her place to spend time with her. I know her blessings will always be with me but will miss her ... RIP #MarySerrao".
