Manish had to leave the Karnataka team after he was drafted in the Indian Test squad for the ongoing Test series against England. Maharashtra captain, Swapnil Gugale initially refused Karnataka to name a replacement when Pandey was plucked out on the first day. He eventually relented and Mathias came out to bat at the fall of the fifth wicket.
