Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza suffered a fracture in his right thumb while representing his side during the third T20 against New Zealand at the Bay Oval. An X-ray revealed that he will be out of action for four to weeks.
"Mashrafe had an X-ray done immediately after the match and the report has confirmed a fractured right metacarpal. Recovery is expected to take between four to six weeks and will be followed by a short rehab. The injured area will be put in a cast as he recovers," the Bangladesh physio said.
Two other players, Imrul Kayes and Tamim Iqbal, also sustained injuries and will be assessed over the next 48 hours.
The first Test between the two sides begins on January 12th.
