Vernon Philander signed up by Essex for first half of 2017 season
South Africa all-rounder Vernon Philander has been signed up by English county team Sussex for the first half of their 2017 season. The contract includes representing the side for six County Championship matches and the group stages of the Royal London One day Cup as well.
Philander has previously played for four county sides: Middlesex, Somerset, Kent and Nottinghamshire.
The 31-year old, who has been a part of 37 Tests and 30 ODIs, was last seen in action in the the Adelaide Test against Australia late last month.
Chennai Test to go ahead as per the schedule
The fifth Test match between India and England scheduled to be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will go ahead as per the schedule.
There were some doubts whether the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) would be able to host the final Test following the death of chief minister J Jayalalithaa on December 5. However, TNCA secretary Kasi Viswanathan on Thursday confirmed they will host the match and that they have obtained the green signal from the Tamil Nadu police on the security front.
“There is no problem for us in conducting the match. Everything is in place. We had requested the TN police to provide necessary security. I met the Commissioner of Police as well and they have given their nod to provide security for the contest. There was not even a discussion from the government or police to stop the match.The TN police have confirmed that all security arrangements will be made accordingly . We have also informed the same to the BCCI,“ Kasi Viswanathan said.
The fifth Test starts on December 16.
