England left it as late as they possibly could today as they managed to win their opening qualifier game against Slovakia by the solitary goal. For 99% of the match it looked very much like a 0-0 draw.
But Adam Lallana ensured Sam Allardyce registered a win in his very first game in charge. Wayne Rooney created a record by playing his 116th game for England which made him the most capped outfield player for his country.
There was not much of note in the first half with chances few and far between. Slovakia knew what their job was, to stop England from playing, and they did exactly that for the first 45.
But Martin Skrtel received a second yellow in the second reducing them to 10 men. Slovakia were still defending very well with 10 men and it looked like it was going to be a repeat of the Euro 2016 game.
But Lallana stepped up in what was the last kick of the game and managed to squeeze into the net. It will go down as goalkeeping error but that's how it is sometimes!
