Sonam Malik lost her round of 16 match to the Mongolian, Bolortuya Khurelkhuu. She started off really well in the game and was leading by two points till the dying seconds of the game. This is where the surprise came in. The Mongolian took her down on the ground for 5 seconds and earned two takedown points to level the scores. The scores remained the same at the close of the round and Khurelkhuu was adjudged the winner for having more takedowns than Sonam.

Sonam's chances of winning a gold or a silver medal were over there itself but she still had an outside chance to contest for bronze through the repechage. With the Mongolian getting knocked out in the quarterfinals, Sonam's hopes for the bronze medal were crushed as well.

There is still a chance for Sonam to contest for a bronze medal through the repechage. This would require Bolortuya Khurelkhuu to make the finals.

All the opponents knocked out by the two finalists, face off each other in the repechage and fight for a bronze medal.

Sonam scored both her points through push-outs, but the Mongolian scored her 2 points with a touchdown which gave her the advantage in case of scores level.

Thus, Bolortuya Khurelkhuu advanced to the next round of the event.

Aisuluu Tynybekova gold medal favorite in 62 kg

When Tynybekova steps on the mat at the Makuhari Messe Hall in Chiba, Japan, the whole of Kyrgyzstan will be watching her quest for a historic medal at Olympics.

No Kyrgyzstan wrestler has ever won a medal in women's wrestling at the Olympics. Forget that, no other woman had qualified for Olympics other than Tynybekova before Tokyo.

Five years ago, she came agonizingly close to winning a medal in Rio Olympics but lost the bronze medal bout against Sakshi MALIK (IND) in the final seven seconds.

But this time she will be the favourite to finish at the top of the podium.

Japan's Yukako Kawai will be her biggest challenger.
