Tokyo Olympics Archery updates: Indian men finish in bottom half in individual ranking, Pravin Jadhav-Deepika Kumari make mixed team

It's official!

Deepika Kumari and Pravin Jadhav will form India's mixed team. Pramod Chandurkar secretary general of Archery association of India said: " Jadhav will compete in the mixed team event. It was decided who ever will perform will get a chance to compete in the mixed team event."

The Indian mixed team of Pravin Jadhav - Deepika Kumari will meet Chinese Taipei on July 24, Saturday) while the men's team matches will play out on July 26, Monday with India vs Kazakhstan.

Deepika Kumari will be in action at around 2 pm on July 28 when she will meet Bhutan's Karma in the first round (R64).

Indian's archery matches

Tarundeep Rai will meet Ukraine's Oleksii Hunbin
Atanu Das will lock horns with Taipei's Deng Yu-Cheng
Pravin Jadhav will be up against ROC's Galsan Bazarzhapov

The Indian men's team will play Kazakhstan in the first round and will run into Korea in the quarterfinal, if they manage to beat the Kazak archers.

In the mixed team, Deepika Kumari and Pravin Jadhav will meet Chinese Taipei's Lin Chia-En and Tang Chih-Chun in the first round and will most probably run into Korea in the quarterfinals. Korea will meet Bangladesh in the first round.

Mixed team opponents

The Indian mixed team might meet Chinese Taipei in the opening round and could run into the Koreans in the quarterfinals.

Korea sets Olympic record

With 1368 points, Korea sets an Olympic record in the mixed team event. An San with 680 points and Kim Je Deok with 688 points will be competing together and it would be a huge task for anyone to get past them, given the form they are in!

In all probability, the Indian archers will run into Korea in the quarterfinals in all three events - women's individual, men's team and mixed team event.

Pravin Jadhav and Deepika Kumari might partner in mixed team event

Sadly it might not be husband Atanu Das partnering Deepika Kumari in the mixed team event as Atanu finished second, behind Pravin Jadhav, in the ranking round.

The husband-wife pair of Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari had won the gold in the World Cup Stage 3 in Paris before the Olympics but sadly there might not be an encore.

If the archers decide to swap Pravin Jadhav for second-best Atanu Das, India's ranking will fall to 11 and they will end up meeting a higher ranked opponent first up.

Korea continues to dominate

Korea's Kim Je Deok scores 688 to be placed first in ranking while the second place goes to Brady Ellison of USA with 682 points. Oh Jin Hyek of Korea is third with 681 points while the erstwhile leaders Kim Woojin and Muto Hiroki of Japan follow the top three.

Indians finish in bottom half

The Indian men finish the individual ranking in the bottom half of the draw with Pravin Jadhav being the best with a 31st pace finish, followed by Atanu Das in the 35th place and Tarundeep Rai talking the 37th place.

The Indians finish the ranking round (72 arrows) at:

We are now all set for the last round of arrows. In all probability, it will be a mid to bottom half finish for the Indian men.

The Indian men archers have not stuck the bulls eye as much as they would have loved to. Pravin Jadhav and Atanu Das have 5 bulls eye scores each while Tarundeep Rai has found the X four times.

The Indian archers are just separated by five points with Pravin Jadhav leading at 602 and Tarundeep Rai at 597, but it has cost them 10 ranking spots. Talk about how competitive and the margin of error this sport can have!

The archers need to be on the money at all times!

In the penultimate round Set 11 (66 arrows) the Indians are placed at:

The first 30 rankers are separated by 25 points, with the first and second placed Korean being separated by 5 points.

In the 10th set, Pravin scored 10, 10, 9, 9, 9, 9 for a total of 56 while Atanu Das hit the bulls eye twice, in this first two shots, to score 56 (X, X, 9, 9, 9, 9) and Tarundeep Rai scored 54 (10, 10, 9, 9, 9, 7).

The Koreans continue to lead the table while it looks like the Indians will mostly finish midtable.

It could also do a little good for India as they will avoid the top ranked Koreans till the later stages of the tournament.

Pravin Jadhav scored 55 (10, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9) while Atanu Das could only manage 52 (10, 10, 8, 8, 8, 8) and Tarundeep Rai scored 56 (10, 10, 10, 9, 9, 8) to leapfrog four places.

Pravin Jadhav has taken the lead back from Atanu Das.

The top three spots in the table is occupied by, no surprises, by Korea.

The youngest archer in the Olympics Korea's Kim Je Deok leads the pack with 345 points after the first half.

Also, by the way, Kim Deok is just 17 years old.

Closely following the leader are compatriot Kim Woojin with 340 points and Kazakhstan's Denis Gankin on 338 points.

So Pravin Jadhav takes the lead at the half way mark. Atanu Das, however, is just one point behind but Tarundeep Rai will have to score big to upstage his compatriots and move ahead.

However, the Indians seem to be contended by staying in the second half of the draw, which could in turn be a tad disadvantageous when the elimination rounds begin.

Japan's Muto Hiroki leads the charts with 171 points while Korea's Kim Je Deok is second with 170 points.

The mixed team of Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari move 5th with 775 points.

The Indian team is now seventh with 330 points after Set 2.

The Indian men's team is placed sixth with 167 points while the mixed team of Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das are placed fifth with 721 points.

Tarundeep Rai is placed 31st with a score of 55 while Pravin Jadhav is 40th with a score of 54.

Atanu Das starts off with a score of 58 in the first set. He is placed fifth.

Earlier this morning, Korea's An San set a new Olympic record in the women's individual ranking round with a score of 680. She had 36 10-pointers and 16 bulls eye scores!
