They say, "To win tournaments you need to peak at the right time." That is precisely what Dabang Delhi TTC seem to be doing. They lost their first two ties, then won three on a trot, defeating table toppers Bengaluru Smashers in the last encounter of the league stage to get to the playoffs. Then tonight, they just went a notch higher. Before tonight, Orawan Paranang had not clean swept an opponent in UTT season 5, Andreas Levenko had not won a match. But both of those things materialised in the semifinal. The two overseas players pulled their socks up and delivered when it mattered. And, in the end, Diya Chitale stole the spotlight with her imperious display. Delhi are now off to the finals to face off defending champions Goa Challengers - the team that abated their dream run last year and knocked them out of the competition.

CHITALE IN SUPREME CONTROL! She lobbed one up deep to catch Rishya off-guard. Then, served one flat and short which Rishya drove on to the net. Delhi can smell victory.

SPIN IT TO WIN IT! Side-spinning forehand from Chitale that Rishya tried to fetch. But the spin made it hit the top edge of the paddle and fly awry. And as I type this, Chitale gets a point due to the net - the ball hits the top of it and rolls over to Rishya's side. And another one as Rishya drives it into the net this time.

CHITALE PUTS DELHI ON THE BRINK OF THE FINALS! She started slow, she was 0-4 down. But then comes back to win this rally 8-11. She punches the air in joy and Delhi are now one game away from the finals.

MAKING HER DANCE TO HER TUNES! Rishya sends everything into the backhand corner. Chitale returns one and then in the next shot sways away allowing the forehand to come through and killing the rally.

Swift punches down the line. They are exchanging them like two boxers. Rishya tries to go cross and ends up hitting the net.

CHITALE COMES BACK!!! Suddenly the mood of the dugouts shifts. This is oscillating like a pendulum. The crowd is indeed on the edge of their seats.

SHORT RALLIES! Rishya seems to be having the killer instinct tonight. A little opening and she is ready to pounce upon it. Just as I type this she takes this half long serve on a half-volley and sends it past Chitale in the deep forehand corner.

Everything hinges on this one now. The equation is simple: the one who wins the match, wins the tie. Rishya is riding high on confidence having completed a clean sweep over Moumita Dutta in the previous tie. Two out of the three games in that match went into a golden point but she held her nerve. Though, the challenge she faces today is a stiffer one. Diya Chitale has been the Indian paddler to watch this season among the women. She was clean swept by Sutirtha Mukherjee in the first tie of the season but she bounced back to win her next four matches, three of which were clean sweeps. The opponents she toppled over include Manika Batra and Ayhika Mukherjee.

LEVENKO WINS THE MATCH! He came into this tie not having registered a single victory through the season. And when it mattered the most, in the big semifinal, he has punched above his weight to topple over Manush Shah. He drops the paddle and stretches both his arms wide to soak in the applause.

SNAPPING BACKHAND! Twice now, Levenko has sent the ball into the deep forehand corner off the backhand. The wrist has worked magically and sent the ball racing past Shah's paddle.

Levenko is now staying much closer to the table than before. OH! Just as I type that, he back-paddles and Shah sends a cross-court forehand at brisk pace. Levenko almost picks this from behind him and sends it back to kill the rally! The players switch sides now.

SLOWING IT UP! Levenko continues to do the same. Back-paddles with every shot. But now, Shah is not giving him the pace. Hence, the Austrian finds himself too far deep with not enough pace to work with.

SHAH TAKES IT! He comes back with a rapid return in the backhand corner. Levenko opened his shoulder and sent it back with a forehand but only to miss the baseline.

GOLDEN POINT TIME! A shocker from Shah! It was a short spinning serve from Levenko that Shah tried to return with a forehand but the ball sneaked from under his paddle. Though he comes back well to take us into the tie breaker.

GREAT ANTICIPATION ONCE AGAIN! Levenko kept on back-paddling with every shot. He answered every vigorous forehand that came his way with a forehand that was even rapid. Eventually, Shah caved in.

After losing a point due to hitting the net, Shah complains of a wet ball. He shows the mark on his racquet to the referee and demands for the point to be replayed. The referee overrules his objection.

GREAT ANTICIPATION! A soft push on a shorter length after which Levenko premeditates a couple of steps backwards, that sets him up nicely to send a cracking forehand, cross-court and flat. Shah could not answer.

STILL WELL POISED! Levenko has been deploying cross court returns and has moved a fair bit. Shah, on the other hand has stayed closer to the table and opened his stance when required for the smash to come through.

Andreas shows solid defence to begin with. Shah, who likes to keep it flat, hits the net twice before unfurling a forehand that eventually breached the Austrain's block.

Ahmedabad have turned things around. They head into the penultimate match of the evening being a point ahead. What's more? Manush Shah has looked in red hot form thus far. Though, a single's match can be a lot different than a double's match but he would be expected to carry the momentum. His opponent, Austrian champion Andreas Levenko, is yet to win a match in this season. Hence, he would have to punch above his weight for Delhi to stay in the hunt.

GREAT RECOVERY! This one hit the net and rolled over to the Delhi pair's side. Sathiyan leaned forward to scoop this back and Szocs was not expecting it. She ended up sending it awry at the 11th hour. Almost looked embarrassed after playing that.

BERNADETTE WITH A BANANA! She makes the ball curl in from the side of the net to win this point for her team. The game once again begins with the two teams being neck to neck on the board.

UNDEFEATED STILL! Shah drags this off the forehand, into Sathiyan's body who cannot side-step to give himself room. S&S win the match and remain undefeated in the tournament. The tie score is 4-4 now.

WOW! GREAT ANSWER! A long and deep serve from Paranang is picked up beautifully by Shah who moves a couple of steps back to play this. Sathiyan drives the return into the net. AND AGAIN! This time a shortened backhand return from Shah makes Sathiyan falter.

IMMACULATE COORDINATION! After the men picked up simultaneous points with forehands, an engrossing rally unfolded. The ball hit the net, yet Paranang covered by moving forward. Sathiyan on the next return sent it between the two Ahmedabad paddlers to win a point.

MY OH MY! The Delhi paddlers continue to raise the bar. Thus far, we have seen a smashing forehand from Paranang and two breath-taking backhands from Sathiyan. Both from the deep corner and sent wide, beyond Shah's reach, like a missile.

Match 3: Manush Shah/Bernadette Szocs vs Sathiyan Gnanasekaran/Orawan Paranang

Ahmedabad SG Pipers are under the pump now. Remember, the team that wins 8 games first, wins the tie. Delhi are half way there. Now, it is up to S&S - Szocs and Shah to restore the momentum. These pair has been undefeated this season thus far. Though, the Delhi duo are also in pretty good form. They have won their last two matches and right now, Paranang is riding high after her win in the single's match. Remember, both team members must alternate shots and each serves should be from the right in this match.

ANOTHER PULSATING GAME! Szocs is deploying the tomahawk serve and moving nimbly to set up points. But Paranang has won her points in a much more riveting fashion. A couple of them have been using a flicking backhand that has sent the ball cross-court at the rate of knots and left the Romanian gasping.
