Goodbye!

And it is great to see her former World No. 1 back in a Grand Slam final again 21 months after she won the US Open in 2016.

Kerber started the 2018 season in scintillating fashion. Everybody expected her to go all the way at the Australian Open. She very much looked unstoppable until losing to the eventual champion, Caroline Wozniacki in a tight three-set semi-final, where she had a match point.

Despite losing her way for the next couple of months, Kerber showed signs of resurgence at the French Open and reached the quarter-finals. It was a big indication of her revival. And now she has gone a step further to reach her first Major final of the year.

Hello and welcome to our coverage of the Wimbledon Championships!

We're down to the business end of Wimbledon, as the women's singles semifinals get underway at the Centre Court today.

In the first of these semifinals, Latvian sensation Jelena Ostapenko is set to face off against Angelique Kerber of Germany, as the two vie for a spot in the title clash on Saturday.

21-year-old Ostapenko has had a brilliant tournament, where she has not yet dropped a set against any of her opponents, in her run till the semifinals. The Latvian has defeated the likes of Katy Dunne of Britain, Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium, Vitala Diatchenko of Russia, Aliaksandra Sasnovic of Russia, and Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia.

Meanwhile, Kerber has had one small hiccup on the road against USA's Claire Liu in the second round, where she dropped a set. Other than this, she has also had a near-spotless record.
