WWE NXT Live Results (December 19, 2023): HORRIFYING injury cuts Main Event short

This isn't the way either competitor wanted their match to end.

Fallon Henley defeats Tiffany Stratton by pin.
Lexis King defeats Dion Lennox by pin.
Kiana James/Izzi Dame defeat Jacy Jayne/Thea Hail by pin.
Dragon Lee defeats Joe Coffey and Charlie Dempsey by pin.
Tavion Heights defeats Luca Crusafino by pin.
Nikkita Lyons defeats Tatum Paxley by pin.
Gallus (Mark Coffey/Wolfgang) defeat Hank Walker and Tank Ledger by pin.
Ilja Dragunov vs. Ridge Holland ends in a No Contest.

The match ends with Ilja being stretchered out to the back, with Ridge left in the ring.
Result - Ilja Dragunov vs. Ridge Holland ends in a No Contest.

Ilja hits an H-Bomb but goes for a powerbomb. Ridge moves, but Ilja hits a jumping kick. Ridge then hits a big boot on Ilja for a two-count. Ridge tries a delayed suplex, but Ilja stops it. Ridge turns it into a modified brainbuster, but the referee checks on Ilja as if he is hurt.

The match is briefly stopped as officials check on Ilja. Ridge is upset in the corner. They bring out a stretcher and a neck brace. A ref tries to calm Ridge down, but he's mad that another possible injury happened.

Dragunov blasts Ridge with chops in the corner, but Ridge smiles and returns fire. He lands a throw for a near fall. Holland goes for another throw, but Dragunov goes for his move through the middle rope. Ridge kicks him to put a stop to it. Ridge lines Ilja up for the 10 beats of the Brawling Brutes, but he hesitates as he holds his hand up. It allows Ilja to briefly recover from hitting a suplex as Ridge tries to bring him back into the ring.

Will Carmelo Hayes factor into this match somehow? He has it out for Ilja.

The two trade smashing strikes, with Ridge dropping the Champ with a clothesline. Ilja responds with chops in the corner until Ridge catches the last one. He headbutts Ilja but can't string combos together. Ilja hits a German, but Ridge prevents another one. They trade more strikes until Ilja hits another German Suplex.

Announced for next week are the two semifinal matches of the Men's Breakout Tournament (Oba Femi vs. Tavion Heights and Lexis King vs. Riley Osborne). Cora Jade and Karmen Petrovic will face off, as will Noam Dar and Josh Briggs.

The NXT Underground match between Eddy Thorpe and Dijak is also announced.

Tiffany Stratton continues to mock Fallon Henley before the main event. She says she was built to serve people like Stratton. She also claims someone like her would never walk into Henley's bar. Stratton then challenges Henley to a match at New Year's Evil. If she wins, then Henley has to be her servant.

Gallus celebrates in the ring with Joe Gacy watching from the crowd. Dijak then addresses Eddy Thorpe's challenge for an NXT Underground match. He questions Eddy's thoughts for wanting more despite sending him to the hospital after their strap match.

Mark decks Hank, but Hank responds with a Pounce-like move. Tank tags himself in, but he doesn't have the rope. Mark hits an Enzuigiri on Hank to pick up the win.

Result - Gallus (Mark Coffey and Wolfgang) defeats Hank Walker and Tank Ledger.

Hank Walker hits some power moves, including a shoulder block and a Senton for a near fall. He tags Tank in, but Wolfie makes the tag to Mark Coffey.

The newer tag team neutralizes Mark before sending Wolfgang out of the ring. Wolfgang makes a blind tag. He sends Hank into the ring post. Hank tries to tag Tank, but Mark distracts Tank to stop it from happening.

Before the next match, Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen try to console Fallon Henley after Henley was embarrassed earlier by Tiffany Stratton. It riles her up since Stratton 'never had to work hard for anything.' She storms off as Briggs says he wants to face Noam Dar alone, even with Meta-Four being ringside for the match next week.

Who will make the finals of the 2023 Men's Breakout Tournament?

Paxley's mouth was busted open by one of the kicks. She lays in her corner, admiring the crow's feather. Backstage, Hank and Tank hype themselves up for their match with charisma star Gallus.

Nikkita hits a few kicks on Paxley before hitting a spinning kick and a split for the win.

Result - Nikkita Lyons defeats Tatum Paxley by pin.

Kelly Kincaid interviews Meta-Four and Noam Dar about if he'll give Josh Briggs a shot at the Heritage Cup. He says it's time to give back to the less fortunate, so he'll accept Briggs' challenge. Tatum Paxley hits the ring and puts one of Lyra's crow feathers in the corner with her jacket.

Both women start with flexible moves on the mat. Lyons kicks Paxley, sending her from the ring. Lyons goes for another strike, but Paxley moves, causing Nikkita to hit the steel steps. Paxley works on Lyons' hand.

Lyra is backstage watching the video package. Nikkita Lyons walks up to say she didn't have an issue with Tatum Paxley until she put her hands on Lyons. She also says she returned for revenge on Blair and the NXT Women's title.

A video package airs centering on Lyra Valkyria and Blair Davenport. They highlight how both women went across the world and ended up in NXT. They were both in NXT UK but never crossed paths as Lyra got hurt. It also contrasts how Lyra did things right in the light while Blair lurked in the shadows to attack others.

With the pin near the ropes, I am half-expecting Crusafino to petition for a rematch.

Luca hits another hip toss into a neckbreaker for a near fall. He goes for another hip toss slam, but Heights counters into another throw and an overhead toss. He adds another German Suplex before hitting a T-Bone Suplex variant. Heights hits a spinning belly-to-belly suplex to pick up a win.
Result - Tavion Heights defeats Luca Crusafino by pin.

Crusafino wrestles in pinstriped pants. Heights hits a throw on Luca. Vic claims that Heights has been training recently with Chad Gable. Luca stomps on Tavion's foot before hitting a back elbow. He lands some more strikes before hitting a neckbreaker for one.

In the women's locker room, Cora Jade returns to the locker room to welcome herself back to NXT. She tosses Karmen Petrovic's stuff out of a locker and takes it over. She also mocks how she pinned Lyra Valkyria last week. After Petrovic sees her things on the ground, Gigi Dolin tells Karmen that there's only one way to deal with someone like Cora Jade. Up next is Tavion Heights taking on Luca Crusafino in the last Breakout Tournament first-round match.

Dragon Lee keeps the title longer than Trick Williams!!

Backstage, Trick is whining about Ridge Holland jumping him in line for a title shot. He says that if Ridge wins tonight, it will be a triple threat at New Year's Evil. Melo smiles and says he already thought of that, but Trick says he'll have to do what no one has been able to do lately - beat Ilja Dragunov.

After the match, Gulak and his crew attack Dragon Lee from behind. Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde make the save for Lee.

Lee goes for a Pescado on Dempsey, but Dempsey decks him. Coffey drops both men with a Suicide Dive of his own. All three men are left lying outside as Joe Gacy randomly appears from under the ring. He smiles like a goof. Joe Coffey tosses Lee and Dempsey back into the ring, but Gacy drags him under the ring.

Lee hits a kick on Dempsey in the corner, but Dempsey catches him as he goes for another move. He hits a reverse bodyslam with a bridge for a pin attempt. Lee recovers to hit his finisher, Operation Dragon, for the win.
Result - Dragon Lee defeats Joe Coffey and Charlie Dempsey by pin.

Dempsey and Coffey deck each other as Lee makes it to his feet. Lee blasts Dempsey with a DDT off of Coffey. Coffey hits a pop-up shoulder block and a punch that sends Lee into Dempsey. Coffey gets a two-count. Lee lands his stomp off the top as Coffey is trapped in the ropes. He then hits Dempsey with a Suicide Dive. Back in the ring, he blasts Coffey with a knee for a near fall.

Lee goes for a double DDT off the top, but Dempsey and Coffey catch and toss him. They take turns pinning Lee, with the other breaking up their pins. They then engage in punches and headbutts. Coffey goes for a springboard shoulder block off the top, but Dempsey hits him with an uppercut. Lee goes for a Sunset Flip, but Coffey catches and tosses him as Dempsey hits him with a German Suplex.

Back from the commercial break with Lee and Dempsey on the top rope. Coffey powerbombs them both from the bottom of the Tower of Doom move. Coffey tries to get Dempsey to team up with him. Lee lands head scissors off a pop-up from Coffey. He then hits boots and kicks with Dempsey and Coffey lying in opposite corners. Lee gets near falls on both men after basement dropkicks.

Coffey sends Dempsey out of the ring. Lee tries to battle Coffey, but Mark and Wolfgang grab his leg as Lee tries to deliver offense to Joe. The referee ejects Mark Coffey and Wolfgang from the ringside.

As Dragon Lee prepares for a member of Gulak's crew, Gallus kills the vibe. Charlie Dempsey had stepped forward but was interrupted by Joe Coffey.

Coffey says that he hasn't heard a bell yet so that he can join the match. Vic Joseph claims that a number wasn't put on the "open challenge" set forth by Lee. Lee sends Dempsey into the corner with head scissors.

Before the next match, we see Andre Chase and Duke Hudson playing dice with Scrypts and OTM. Hudson keeps telling Chase to cash out while he's ahead, but Chase is clearly addicted to winning.

Scrypts say they should have another bet in a tag team match next week. If Duke and Chase win, they get $$ to pay off the debt. If OTM wins, they get a tag title shot after Tony D's cousin okays the situation with Tony over the phone.

Thea Hail gets distracted to easily to pick up a win over Izzi Dame and Kiana James.

Backstage, the women's locker room is watching the match. Arianna Grace and Stevie Turner discuss how Dame and James are formidable. Roxanne Perez walks in and says she's not finished with Dame/James.

Grace stands up and says it's not about winning or losing despite Roxanne losing. Roxy decks Grace before leaving. Grace cries out if she is still pretty after the slap.

Dame clotheslines Jacy before tagging Kiana in. She hits a big boot for two. The heels team up for a move on Jacy. Izzi hits a pancake off her shoulders. Things are brief even when Izzi and Jacy drop each other with dueling clotheslines.

Dame makes the tag to Kiana and Hail gets the tag for her team. Hail hits a few Sentons before getting distracted by Osborne again. Dame hits a blind tag as Hail locks in a submission. James taps, but is not legal. Dame lands a big boot as Hail celebrates as if she won.

Result - Kiana James and Izzi Dame defeat Thea Hail and Jacy Jayne by pin.

Izzi Dame is teaming with Kiana James. She starts against Thea. The Chase U section cheers for Thea, and she likes it. Riley Osborne leads the charge, and Izzi Dame blows him a kiss. That enrages Hail, but she makes the tag to Jacy. Jacy neutralizes James by sending her off the apron. She goes for a Crucifix Bomb pin, but Dame counters out. Jayne almost gets another near fall.

It's the title match you never asked for featuring Ridge Holland!!

Up next, Eddy Thorpe calls Dijak out for their past issues. He calls for a no-ropes match in NXT Underground for next week. Jacy Jayne and Thea Hail take on Izzi Dame and Kiana James next.

As King admires his work after his win, Trey Bearhill comes out with a chair to avenge last week's attack. King says that "he hasn't earned a shot at me yet." Bearhill helps Lennox to his feet.

King lands some kicks, but Lennox just Hulks Up. He tries a roll-up, but King kicks out. He drops King with a shoulder block and a bodyslam. Lennox lands a splash in the corner and a suplex with a bridge for two. King rolls out of the ring and grabs the contract.

Lennox gives chase and slams King's head on the ring apron. King sends Lennox into the middle buckle before hitting his spinning DDT for the win.

Result - Lexis King defeats Dion Lennox by pin.

King tries to shake Dion's hand, but Dion slaps it away. He rubs Dion's eyes on the ropes before hitting him with a clothesline and chop. Lennox goes to the mat after a knee to the gut. King clotheslines him in the back of the head.

Before the next match, Trick runs up to Ilja backstage, asking why Ilja accepted a challenge tonight from Ridge Holland. Ilja says, "I'm the Champion, and the Champion dictates to the challengers." Trick says he'll be the Champ at New Year's Evil. Lexis King takes on Dion Lennox next in the Breakout Tournament.

He also says he'll go through everyone in the back until he makes it to Ilja. When he does, it will be his redemption song. Ilja says he's tired of everyone accusing him of things and that Ridge can have his match tonight.

Holland says he's been struggling with himself for the last few weeks to find out who he is. He tries to equate his situation with Butch and the Brawling Brutes to the drama between Trick and Melo. He's been "stigmatized" by injuries and accidents. Essentially, he wants a title shot to legitimize himself but hasn't done anything to earn it, but he says he has too much respect for Ilja to walk in and expect to be handed a title shot.

Ilja says he doesn't know how he got caught up in the TrickMelo drama as the third wheel. His goals were to move to America and win the NXT Title. He adds that he puts every part of himself in danger for the title's sake. Ridge Holland then shows up for some reason.

Stratton dumps trash on poor Fallon Henley after Henley picks up an upset win.

Trick stands up for himself, saying he won the Iron Survivor match so HE could get a title shot. Melo says it doesn't matter who has the belt as long as THEY have it. Melo continues to blame Ilja for the attack. Trick also says Melo won all of his matches one-on-one. He then asks Melo to help him train.
