AJ Styles vs Dolph Ziggler

WWE World Champion Dean Ambrose is on commentary for this one.

Dolph has looked unhinged since losing to Ambrose at SummerSlam and he makes his way out here first. AJ Styles gets  the biggest pop of the night when he comes out and it's clear that AJ is one of the biggest stars on SmackDown right now.

The two start off with some great chain wrestling although you wouldn't normally expect such a heated matchup to begin that way. Ziggler starts off in control over Styles and AJ looks like his body's showing the effects from his epic showdown with John Cena at SummerSlam.

We come back from commercial with Styles finally in control after sending Ziggler face first into the turnbuckle. Styles sends Ziggler crashing into the turnbuckle again and Ziggler takes the bump like a boss. Styles hits Ziggler with a backbreaker for a 2 count.

Styles is firmly in control by now and this match has been pretty good. Devastating looking punches from AJ Styles to Dolph followed by a roundhouse kick to the head. The crowd has been on the quieter side all night but this match has got them on the edge of their seats.

AJ is "stomping a mudhole" into Ziggler who's lying in the corner who finally gets up and starts fighting back. This might be his last chance to make his way back into the match.

We come back from ANOTHER commercial break to see AJ still in control. Ziggler tries to make one last comeback and he's on fire now hitting AJ with corner splashes and elbow drops.

Ziggler hits the Famouser for a 2-count! Both men are down! He follows it up with a jumping DDT for another nearfall after AJ misses a 450 splash. Both men are down again! The crowd are finally on their feet and screaming "This is awesome".

AJ runs at Dolph after both men get back on their feet but Ziggler moves out of the way and hits the ZIGZAG! 1-2-HE KICKED OUT! Styles kicks out!

AJ Styles with the Styles Clash on Dolph Ziggler. This one is over. 1-2-3.

AJ Styles def. Dolph Ziggler

AJ Styles is the new #1 contender for the WWE World Championship. Styles and Ambrose face off after the match and that feud looks like it will be red hot. With the WWE Raw title situation messed up after Balor's injury, SmackDown can really run with this angle and make their mark.

WWE World Champion Dean Ambrose is backstage after the match. He gets asked what he thinks about the #1 contenders match between AJ and Ziggler, to which Dean says he wasn't aware of the match because he was playing roulette. Following this, he gets a coffee brought to him by a waitress and he leaves. That was weird.

American Alpha vs Breezango

The next match of the SmackDown Live tag-team title tournament is up next. I'm a huge fan of both these teams and this one should be a cracker, between two of the most talented teams on SmackDown's roster.

Breezango make their way down to the ring first and their split screen promo was brilliant, encompassing their characters perfectly. American Alpha make their way out next and get a decent pop from the crowd.

Gable and Fandango get us started. Fandango dance in front of Gable but Gable chain wrestling immediately catches Fandango off guard. Breeze gets tagged in next, as does Jason Jordan. American Alpha clean house and send both Breeze and Fandango over the top rope.

Breeze comes back into the ring only to be outwrestled  by Gable again. Gable tags in Jordan but the ref doesn't see the tag. Breeze uses the distraction to tag in Fandango who almost beheads Chad Gable with a ferocious clothesline.

We come back from the commercial break with Gable still being worked over by Breezango. Gable finally makes the tag to Jason Jordan who single-handedly clears house. Suplexes everywhere!!

Jordan and Gable go for a double team but Fandango interferes. Hurracanra into a pin by Breeze for a two count, followed by a Supermodel kick for the nearfall. Breezango goes for a double team move but Gable saves his partner in the last minute. What a match!

Jordan comes in for the Alphaplex to Breeze. He tags in Gable and the go for the Grand Amplitude. 1-2-3-That's it! Alpha pick up the win.

Shane is backstage and the interviewer asks him about Brock. Shane says that Stephanie will not take the situation seriously at all, after all Stephanie had fined Brock just $500. He says that the situation between him and Brock was far from over. Are we building to a match between Brock and Shane? Stranger things have happened.

...

Randy Orton comes out next. It's good to see that Randy's doing okay after the scary situation at SummerSlam. The Viper looks a little worse from wear but okay overall.

Randy comes out and says that it was on hell of a fight on Sunday at SummerSlam and the 10 stitches on his head proved his point. He says that he'd rather have been carried out unconscious than lose by TKO and one day, his and Brock Lesnar's path would cross again one day.

BRAY WYATT! Bray Wyatt is making his way down to the ring. Bray sits in a rocking chair outside the ring and takes a mic.

He tells Randy that there's nothing like being busted wide open by Brock Lesnar to remind him that he's just a man, unlike Bray. Bray says  that he isn't just a man, he's a god, and a god can never die, which Randy would find out in time.

The lights go ou again and Bray is nowhere to be seen.

...

We see another recap of Brock Lesnar vs Randy Orton from SummerSlam following the break. WWE are really milking this angle for all its worth. By the way, how come Shane hasn't mentioned Brock F5-ing him yet?

Nikki Bella vs Carmella

Nikki Bella makes her return to SmackDown next and she's taking on 'The Princess of Staten Island'. Carmella and Nikki both get pretty good reactions.

Nikki Bella is a godsend for the blue brand's women's division.

Carmella attacks Nikki Bella as Renee Young interviews Nikki in the middle of the ring. Is this a heel turn from Carmella? Great fire from Carmella and this will help the crowd see a different side of her.

It looks like this match will get called off after another referee comes out and escorts Carmella out of the ring. Carmella runs into the ring again gives Nikki a Bella Buster. Talk about rubbing salt into her wounds.

This was a great segment for Carmella to get over. Brilliant.

Match called off after Carmella attacks Nikki before the match

AJ Styles is making his way out to the ring next. AJ's coming off a huge victory over John Cena at SummerSlam and will be supremely confident tonight. The match with Cena was arguably the best match of SummerSlam by quite a margin.

The crowd chant AJ Styles as he comes out. AJ starts off by saying that he's seeing a lot of jealous faces backstage after his huge win at SummerSlam, including the likes of Dolph Ziggler who's appeared unhinged all evening. Styles is wearing Cena's 'Never Give Up' armband and says that he did exactly what he'd promised to, he 'beat up John Cena'.

Styles goes on to say that he could be Cenation's hero and now, he was the 'face that ran the place' and deserved to be the #1 contender to the WWE Championship.

Dolph Ziggler interfered once again but was stopped by security. Bryan followed him out and said that he wouldn't let Ziggler and Styles ruin the show. He announces a match between AJ Styles and Dolph Ziggler. If AJ Styles wins he'll get a one-on-one shot at Dean Ambrose's WWE World Championship while if Ziggler wins, then the match will be a triple threat.

The Ascension vs The Usos

The Ascension are in the ring as we come back from the commercial break, They're followed out by The Usos.

The Ascension start off strong and get a nearfall off of Jimmy Uso just seconds into the match. Konno and Viktor work on Jimmy in the corner and pull off some nice looking moves including an impressive double team move, Viktor had Jimmy in a Half Boston Crab and Konnor followed it with a tandem leg drop.

Jimmy finally manages to tag in his brother. Jey starts with a flying crossbody followed by a superkick to Viktor. He follows it up with a superkick to Konnor. Jimmy then takes Konnor our with a plancha to Konnor on the outside, while Jimmy hits Viktor with a superkick. Jey comes back in to pick up the pinfall with a frog splash.

The Usos def. The Ascension

This match was okay, but not the most exciting start to the tournament.

The SmackDown Tag-Team Chamionship tournament kicks off next!

...

Heath Slater is backstage after the match. He's looking for a new tag partner and he runs into The Miz. He asks The Miz whether he to team up, but Miz is in his own delusional world and he tells Maryse that he might be the next 'Indiana Jones'. Never change Miz, never change.

...

Becky Lynch vs Alexa Bliss

The new era of the SmackDown Women's division begins with The Irish Lasskicker taking on Alexa Bliss. We see Alexa Bliss on the cover of Muscle and Fitness magazine before the match kicks off. Naomi and Natalya are at ringside.

Becky starts the match on top and starts working on Alexa's arm right her away, softening it up for The Disarmer. Alexa swiftly gains control after a kick to the head and she had Becky locked in an armlock.

Becky breaks out by whipping Bliss into the corner and hits her with a running forearm. Bliss tries a roll up but Becky counters in anto a DISARMER!

She taps! Alexa taps!

Becky Lynch def. Alexa Bliss

Great win for Becky.

Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan are heading to the ring to unveil the new SmackDown championships.

Shane kicks it off by introducing Daniel Bryan as the best GM in the history of the WWE. Bryan goes straight on to introduce the women from SD, who are already in the ring. With that, he introduces the SmackDown Women's Championship. The belt is almost an exact replica of the WWE Women's Championship, except that it's blue. He announced a 6-pack challenge for the women's championship at Backlash.

Bryan now goes on to introduce the SmackDown tag-team titles and these belts are truly amongst the ugliest belts in the history of wrestling. It's the same design as Raw's tag-team titles except the straps are blue. As Bryan announced a tag-team tournament that will culminate, the "hottest free agent" around, Heath Slater interferes and guarantees that he'll find a partner and win the tournament. Bryan replies that he will only was a SmackDown contract if he wins the tournament.

AJ Styles makes his way out as Heath Slater leaves. AJ says that he doesn't care about the tag titles of the women's title and  he's disgusted with the show that Shane and Bryan were running. Clearly, he isn't over Ziggler attacking him yet. As he makes his way down, Ziggler jumps him from the back and both men brawl outside thee ring and Shane gets the wrestlers gathered in the ring to break it up.

...

The show kicks off with a backstage promo. AJ Styles is  gloating about how he's the new 'face that runs the place' to the boys in the back when he sees a dejected Dolph Ziggler. He laughs at Ziggler for not having a good night on SummerSlam when Ziggler unceremoniously headbutts him. New feud?

SmackDown Live comes to us today from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The New Era continues with the fallout from SummerSlam and two new titles will be unveiled tonight. For all the latest on all things SmackDown, just stick right here.

...

Stephanie McMahon has fined Brock Lesnar a paltry $500 for his annihilation of Randy Orton at SummerSlam followed by the subsequent F-5 on Steph's brother Shane McMahon. Does this signify the status quo between Lesnar and the WWE? Is he untouchable?

...

...

Nikki Bella, who made her return to WWE at SummerSlam, is set to make her SmackDown Live! debut tonight and will face The Princess of State Island - Carmella.
