Things are about to pick up on SmackDown Live as WWE World Champion, Dean Ambrose, makes his way down to the ring followed by his opponent at Backlash, AJ Styles.

This crowd has been dead all night.

Charli Caruso walks into the ring to interview Styles and Ambrose but the WWE World Champion asks Charli to leave because things might break down.

Ambrose hands Styles a bag with a trophy in it that was originally for participating in a bowling tournament. Ambrose hands it to Styles and tells him that will be the only prize he receives from Ambrose.

Styles tells Ambrose that he'll regret treating him as a joke. The crowd shows some life as they break into a "soccer mom" chant. Styles throws the trophy away and says that the he'll take the WWE World Championship from Dean on Sunday at Backlash.

Styles tells Ambrose that he's no John Cena and Ambrose agrees. Ambrose says that their match at Backlash will be a fight, not a wrestling match. He says that he can do whatever he wants at Sunday and calls Styles 'the face that runs in second place'.

Styles replies by low blow-ing Ambrose and smashing his trophy.

Hype Bros vs Heath Slater and Rhyno

Wow, this whole Heath's kids thing really picked up. We see his 'kids' at ringside before the match.

Slaters starts the match off with Zack Ryder who's started the match off well. Flying missile dropkick takes out Slater before Ryder tags in Mojo Rawley. Rawley tackles Slater after blocking his path before throwing Slater to the outside. Rawley rolls outside and takes out the incoming Rhyno as we slide into another commercial break.

We come back from commercial to see Rawley and Slater in the ring. Rawley misses a corner splash which gives Heath the chance to tag Rhyno in. Rhyno comes in and lays out Zack Ryder with a Gorebuster.

Rawley and Ryhno brawl outside as Slater and Ryder are the legal men. Ryder has Slater is place for the Broski boot before Rhyno pulls him out of the way.

Ryhno's back in the ring and has Ryder in his sights. He's sets him up........GORE!

Fandango is in the ring next. He says that Tyler Breeze is busy in Dubai but he, Fandango, has found someone to tango with. A woman called Betty enters the ring and Fandango asks her if her dancing is as fine as her tattoos.

The music starts and Betty starts dancing. Fandango tells her that her hips lie and he asks her to leave. He then asks if there's anyone there who could tango with him.

Kane's music hits and he walks towards the ring. A delusional Fandango says he can feel the fire in Kane's belly and asks him if he wants to dance. Kane chokeslams Fandango before moving on in his merry way.

This hasn't been a great go-home show for Backlash. The first hour of the show was boring at best but thankfully it's picked up a little with the last segment.

American Alpha vs The Usos

The first semi-final of the SmackDown Live tag-team championship tournament is up next with the Samoan veterans taking on the hottest team on the blue brand.

The former 2-time tag champs, The Usos, make their way to the ring first followed out by American Alpha.

The two teams show each other a sign of respect before we begin but The Usos attack American Alpha from behind as soon as they turn their back.

One of the Usos goes to attack Gable who moves out of the way, sending said Uso crashing outside. GRAND AMPLITUDE seconds into the match from American Alpha! American Alpha win!

The six-women tag match is up next! The faces come out first before being joined in the ring by the heels.

Naomi and Alexa Bliss start of the match. Naomi starts of by kicking the daylights out of Alexa who rolls out and tags in Carmella. Naomi has Carmella overpowered and in an arm bar as she tags in Becky. Becky with the backslide on Carmella for the nearfall followed by a sunset flip pin.

Becky tags in Nikki Bella which causes Carmella to scamper and roll outside the ring as we go into another commercial break.

We come back from the break with Becky Lynch on top of Carmella. Carmella manages to tag in Natalya. Natalya isolates Becky in the corner and tags in Alexa and they double team Becky.

Alexa Bliss stands on Becky's back and stomps down before going for a quick covers as the crowd breaks out into "Becky" chants. Alexa breaks away and manages to tag in Nattie again. Nattie has Becky in a headlock but Becky hits back with a knee to the face and a schoolgirl. Becky treies to go for the tag but fails at first as Natalya tags Alexa Bliss in.

Becky still manages to tag Nikki Bella in. Nikki comes in ferociously and leaves Alexa Bliss laying. Alexa cheapshots Becky and tags in Carmella. Nikki Bella uses her new finisher on Carmella but the pin is broken up by Alexa Bliss.

Alexa Bliss hits Nikki with the jumping knees to the gut and a standing moonsault before Becky drives her out of the ring. Carmella capitalizes with a Code of Silence on Nikki Bella who taps out eventually.

The Miz vs Apollo Crews

The Miz comes out for a non-tile rematch of his clash with Apollo Crews. Miz's opponent at Backlash, Dolph Ziggler, is at ringside so expect him to get involved in the match sometime.

The SummerSlam rematch kicks off with Miz and Crews squaring off. Crews' strength advantage is clear from the word go but will The Miz's experience be overcome?

Crews and Miz lock up to begin with as Crews takes Miz down. Miz tries to counter but Crews' takes the advantage thanks to his sheer athleticism and ahs The Miz reeling on the outside. Crews hits a sweet apron moonsault as we go into the break with Apollo Crews on top.

We're back from the break with The Miz back in control. Crews tries to pin Miz with a roll up but the Miz hits back with a neckbreaker. Miz has Crews in a split arm bar but Crews manages to power out and tries to counter with a sunset flip pin but The Miz kicks out. Crews is in the corner and Miz hits him with his trademark corner splash.

The Miz goes to the top rope and tries a double axe handle. Crews incredibly catches him and gives him an overhead belly-to-belly in one motion.
The Miz rolls to the outside and slaps Ziggler in the face. Crews baseball slides to the outside and gets between Miz and Ziggler. Miz pushes Crews into Ziggler before rolling Crews into the ring and hitting the Skill Crushing Final!

1-2-3! Miz picks up the win.

The Miz def. Apollo Crews

These finishes with the future opponent at ringside as guest announcer have gone on too long and are too predictable.

...

The Miz and Daniel Bryan are in another backstage confrontation with Shane and Maryse also present. The Miz is upset that he has to face Ziggler at Backlash. Daniel Bryan tells him that if he's a coward, he can hand over his title.

Six Woman Tag Match announced

SmackDown Live kicks off with Daniel Bryan in the ring with the SmackDown women's championship. He says that from the 6 women competing, there can only one winner. Bryan also announces that the night will kick off with a Women's Championship forum, which will be followed by a six woman tag match later in the evening.

Bryan's first guest is the Irish Lass Kicker, Becky Lynch. Becky comes out and says that she's a little surprised that Nikki didn't come out first. She also says that there's a reason why she's lived away from home and travelled around the world for year's, and that is to win the SmackDown women's title.

Natalya interrupts Becky and calls Becky out for boring. She says that the WWE Draft was the worst night of her life because she got drafted on the same brand as Becky and her unnatural hair colour.

Alexa Bliss comes out next and asks if Daniel Bryan could ever be more than a Bella trophy husband but her question goes unanswered as Carmalla interrupts and brags about her beat down on Nikki.

This segment is weird and Natalya, Alexa ad Carmella are bickering. Now the heels are turning on Becky but Naomi and Nikki are out as backup. The six women brawl with Becky, Naomi and Nikki coming out on top.
