After a few complications in the second and third practice sessions, Casey Stoner was back on track in the qualifying practice of the Assen MotoGP. He was followed by teammate Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo set the third best time.
A nice surprise in the afternoon was Stefan Bradl, who set his best World Superbike qualifying performance and came in fourth. He was followed by Cal Crutchlow, who still seems not fully recovered from his ankle-fracture. Ben Spies took the sixth place and was followed by Andrea Dovizioso.
An unfortunate Alvaro Bautista had crashed out of the final lap, but still managed to secure the eighth place. The top ten was completed by Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi.
