2019 NASCAR Truck Series regular-season champion Grant Enfinger will be looking to win the 2024 Championship 4 race at Phoenix Raceway on November 8th. In an interview, the 39-year-old spoke about the importance of winning the title with NASCAR journalist Bob Pockrass.
Enfinger began his professional racing career in 2008 in the ARCA Re/Max Series (now ARCA Menards). He went on to win the 2015 ARCA Menards championship title. Meanwhile, he also began driving part-time in the Truck Series in 2010, progressing into one of the USA's top three national stock car series. After several part-time and full-time seasons, the Alabama-born racer eventually clinched the regular-season title in 2019 with ThorSport Racing (finished 7th in the championship).
Now, in his 14th season in the Truck Series, Enfinger is leading the 2024 drivers' championship with CR7 Motorsports. Ahead of the season finale at Phoenix Raceway, the #9 Chevrolet driver shared his opinion about winning the title at the age of 39.
"I think I probably appreciate this opportunity that I have anyway a little bit differently than some of the other drivers. Obviously, everybody comes from different walks of life. But it was a long time into my career before I got into fully funded stuff. For the last 10 years, I've been in good stuff and in some way shape form, or fashion," Enfinger said.
"I've been very very blessed for that and I've been enjoying every opportunity. So this is another one of those opportunities that I get to enjoy. When we hoist the trophy on Friday I think it'll mean a little bit more to somebody like me," he added.
Pockrass shared a video of Enfinger's statement on X. Here's a look at the post, captioned:
"At age 39, would Grant Enfinger look at a (NASCAR) truck title differently than his younger competitors, especially those who believe they will have potential Xfinity and Cup opportunities to make the Champ 4 in those series?"
"We’ve had potential all year" - Grant Enfinger on winning NASCAR Baptist Health 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway
Grant Enfinger won back-to-back races at Talladega Superspeedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway. The #9 CR7 Motorsports driver spoke about the team's potential during a post-race interview after the Baptist Health 200 at Homestead.
“At the end of the day, (crew chief) Jeff (Stankiewicz) just had the best truck out here. Our car was really fast after about five laps yesterday (in practice) and was the same way today. Jeff did a good job managing me with the tires and then managing me with the fuel. I feel like I saved at least 20 percent more than I did in the first run," Enfinger said, explaining the Homestead race.
"Hard to beat these two weeks. We’ve had potential all year. There’s been sometimes, I haven’t executed and sometimes we’ve just had bad luck. Maybe it’s just time we get our momentum now," he added.
With two race wins in the 2024 NASCAR Truck Series Round of 8, Enfinger secured his berth in the Championship 4 race at Phoenix. He will be joined by Christian Eckes, Ty Majeski, and Corey Heim in the NASCAR Truck Series grand finale.
