Bowman won the Chicago street race this year. With consistent performance throughout the regular season (13 Top-10s and six Top-5 finishes), the 31-year-old became one of the top contenders for the championship battle.

As for the playoffs, he is placed sixth on the drivers' table and is just 26 points behind his teammate and championship leader William Byron. With the upcoming race scheduled to take place at the iconic Talladega circuit, the Arizona-based NASCAR driver will look to be conservative ('Dega is notorious for multi-car wrecks almost every outing).

Bowman shared his strategy for the tri-oval superspeedway in a post on Hendrick Motorsports's Instagram page. Here's a look at the post, captioned:

"Just gotta keep the nose clean… easier said than done."

"For me, I just try to race hard and be smart. Like if you're 20th, coming to two to go on a stage, like you're not going to get stage points. So you can kind of be conservative then. But other than that, just race hard and try to be upfront. It's probably the most dangerous way to do it, but I feel like when you try to save your car all day, you don't really know what you have at the end," Bowman said, explaining his Talladega strategy.

“Yeah, it’s really difficult” - Alex Bowman recalled 'tough times' after ending over a year-long winless streak at Chicago

It took Alex Bowman 80 races to claim victory in the NASCAR Cup Series again. Ending his winless streak at Chicago this season, the Hendrick Motorsports driver spoke about the difficulties he faced during that run.

Bowman suffered a concussion in 2022, which put him out of contention for about five weeks. Although he competed in the playoffs, Bowman eventually finished 16th in 2022.

In 2023, A back injury during a Sprint Car race saw him miss a few races. This impacted his overall results, with Bowman ending 20th in the drivers' table.

During a media interaction after the Chicago Street Race, Bowman recalled the challenges he faced during his winless 2023 season.

“Yeah, it’s really difficult. Obviously we have all the tools we need to win, and our teammates have been really good throughout that time. But we just couldn’t put it together," Alex Bowman said.
"It has certainly been a large mental test to go through everything that has happened in the last two years and try to continue to overcome that each and every week, especially when things aren’t going your way, and honestly, the last month has been super-frustrating for us. We’ve had a lot of things outside of our control, cost us a lot of points, and it’s been really frustrating."

Alex Bowman has emerged as one of the top contenders for the title this season. At eight points above the 'Round of 8' cut-off mark, he is currently out of the elimination bubble and ahead of his teammate Chase Elliott and Team Penske's Joey Logano.
