Bubba Wallace recently shared his thoughts on NASCAR potentially entering more countries with their racing product. Last year it was announced that NASCAR would be making a stop in Mexico City on their 2025 schedule, becoming the first points-paying race since 1998 to go outside of the US.
Ahead of the weekend in Mexico, Bubba Wallace was asked whether he feels NASCAR is ready to go to other countries. The 23XI Racing driver lauded NASCAR for their 'massive step' to enter the Mexican market, adding that if they can figure out the logistics, it could become better.
It's worth mentioning that several NASCAR personnel faced major issues with the logistics of traveling to Mexico. A flight that was supposed to take off with many insiders, including Dale Earnhardt Jr., failed to take off from Charlotte. As a result, many of those people had to take different flights to reach their destination.
"I think if we can all come together and come up with some solid plan that we won’t have to run into that issue again. Nothing is ever the same. I think it can be done. I think the leadership has done a good job with everything that is in place for us to get here and put on an event for the local crowd here in Mexico. The real answer to that will be post-race once we all see it all – like this is my first couple of hours on the race track grounds, and I’ve enjoyed it so far," Wallace elaborated.
He mentioned that he has enjoyed his time on and off the racetrack which convinced him that NASCAR can create the same environment in other markets as well. Having said that, Bubba Wallace emphasized the need to iron out the logistics.
The #23 driver lauded the truck drivers as 'the real heroes' for making the weekend in Mexico happen for the teams.
Bubba Wallace was pleasantly surprised with this about Mexican culture
During his interaction with the media ahead of Mexico, Bubba Wallace was asked what he enjoyed about being in Mexico. Wallace revealed his stay in Mexico, which began on Wednesday, had been fun as he took part in racing on the water and dived deeper into Mexican culture and cuisine.
He shared his observation of people from Mexico loving spices in their food, something he approved of.
"I think the spice levels here compared to back home in the States – is they will bring out three different sauces, right, and they will be like this one is good, this one is medium and this one is really hot – they warn you beforehand, and we do the same – this one is really hot, well when you get home, ours is stupid hot – no flavor, nothing at all," Bubba Wallace elaborated.
With that said, it'll be interesting to see how the 23XI Racing driver fares in Mexico. So far this season, Bubba Wallace has only three finishes inside the top 5, the most recent of which came at Michigan last Sunday.
