Trackhouse Racing announced NASCAR prodigy Connor Zilisch as the new spotter for their star driver Ross Chastain ahead of the Viva Mexico 250 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Stock car racing analyst Steven Taranto shared the news with the fans, sharing a snapshot of Zilisch spotting for Chastain.
The 18-year-old filled the shoes of the #1 Chevy Camaro ZL1 crew chief, Brandon McReynolds, during the practice session at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Reynolds was among the team members facing traveling issues ahead of the main event.
The NASCAR commentators revealed that this was Connor Zilisch's first time as a spotter. They also claimed that nearly a year ago, Zilisch did some spotting in Chicago. Reflecting on the same, the analyst wrote:
"Connor Zilisch is filling in as Ross Chastain's spotter during this practice session. Chastain's usual spotter Brandon McReynolds was among the Trackhouse Racing employees affected by the team's travel issues. Broadcast said it was the Zilisch has ever spotted, but he did do some spotting in Chicago a year ago."
During the practice session at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, Zilisch performed his role well. Ross Chastain finished the first practice session inside the top ten drivers, securing a P8 finish with a lap time of 94.338 seconds.
Following the same pace, Chastain was guided well by Connor Zilisch in the second session, and the Trackhouse Racing driver claimed a P2 finish. Chastain was a tenth of a second behind the session leader, Front Row Motorsports driver Todd Gilliland.
Also, the Viva Mexico 250 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez has no changes on Sunday's event for the Cup Series drivers.
