Dale Earnhardt Jr. opened up about an honest father-son talk
Dale Earnhardt Jr. shared a tough relationship with his dad growing up. He admitted that his dad was never present trackside to support him when he raced Late Models. However, a crash in Charlotte during his early days in the Busch Series led to a life-changing conversation with his dad.
After crashing his car in a practice session, Dale Jr. was heartbroken and believed his career was over before it had begun. When he returned home, his dad had a chat with him, which he spoke about on the recently released Earnhardt documentary on Prime Video.
"He goes, ‘Man, what are you doing?’ I was like, ‘I thought my racing career is over.’ He’s like, ‘no, they’re gonna fix that car. That’s where you should be. You should be wanting to fix your car. Where is that? Where is that inside of you? What’s missing in you that you thought to come over here and sit on your ass and feel sorry for yourself?’ That was the one father-son talk that we had that sunk in," Dale Jr. said.
