Legacy Motor Club driver Erik Jones suffered a severe blow during the 188-lap run at the Talladega Superspeedway after Bubba Wallace's #23 Toyota rammed into the former's ride, following which Jones got transported to a local hospital.

The GEICO 500 marked the tenth Cup Series race on the calendar, witnessing Tyler Reddick claim his maiden win this season. After crossing the final turn, the pack dashed towards the checkered flag, with Michael McDowell taking charge. However, in a bid to block the charging Brad Keselowski, the Front Row Motorsports driver spun from the lead to a dismal DNF.

The race saw no cautions being raised until the first two stages, however, on Lap 157, the disheartening incident occurred spiraling Erik Jones, Bubba Wallace, and Denny Hamlin. The four Toyotas were drafting on the 2.66-mile oval with Tyler Reddick in the lead, when a push by John Hunter Nemechek's #42 Toyota into Wallace's car resulted in a domino effect, collecting Jones' #43 in a horrific crash.

The severity of the crash was such that the ambulance approached the LMC driver's car and Jones was taken to the infield care center. A while ago, NASCAR provided an update on the situation, highlighting the shifting of the injured driver to a local hospital for a deeper examination:

Erik Jones weighs in on his "destroyed the car" outing at Talladega

Jones is yet to churn a promising result on his 2024 Cup Series schedule. After bagging a solitary top-5 and seven top-10s, the 27-year-old Michigan native ended his 2023 season in P27, with zero wins to his name.

Moreover, the current season hasn't seen the LMC driver showcase supremacy on the asphalt except for his season-opener run at the Daytona International Speedway, from where his only top-10 finish of this season has come.

After failing to register a satisfactory result from his tenth run of the year, courtesy of the high-speed wreck with the #23 Toyota, Erik Jones outlined his disastrous run at Talladega. He said (via Frontstretch on Youtube) [1.48]:

"Ended up pretty hard in the wall. It's unfortunate for us, ended our day and destroyed the car. Just didn't work out, we had to be aggressive with the strategy."

Jones added:

"It'll be a long week just trying to get recovered and get feeling better for the next week."
