Amid the thrilling Superspeedway race, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. emerged victorious and earned his fourth Cup Series victory at the Yellawood 500 in Talladega. The JTG Daugherty Racing driver believes the hard work they are putting in is finally paying off.
In a recent conversation with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, the two-time Xfinity Series champion Stenhouse Jr. applauded the #47 Chevy team's efforts and how the win keeps the spirits high for the one-car organization and its sponsors. He said:
"It's huge. I mean, you know, everybody at Kroger, the Colgate, Palmolive, Camaro was awesome. You know, all day long. My team did a phenomenal job, but we got so many partners that have been in this sport for a long time. And, you know, Tad and Jodi [Geschickter], Brad [Daugherty], Gordon [Smith], everybody that has put so much effort in to having a race team. And that being said, we got a lot of things kind of coming down the pipeline that wins help, right?"
Furthermore, Stenhouse Jr. added:
"I think right now we got a great group of people. We got a small group of people and everybody believes in each other. And a win like that keeps that belief going, right? That we do have the right people and the work that they're putting in is paying off. So just it doesn't hurt anything. I can tell you that."
The dramatic Superspeedway race witnessed a historic 28-car pile-up in the final stretch of the race. Stenhouse Jr. native was also slightly involved in the chaos but managed to pass through with less damage. He crossed the checkered flag 0.006 seconds ahead of Brad Keselowski and 0.027 in front of William Byron. This marked his win after the 2023 Daytona 500 in a three-wide photo finish.
"Completely worth it, 100%" - Ricky Stenhouse Jr.'s team owner on winning at Superspeedway despite one-car operation
Based in Harrisburg, North Carolina, JTG Daugherty Racing is a one-car Cup Series team co-owned by former NBA player Brad Daugherty.
Speaking with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, the five-time All-Star shared his thoughts on a smaller team getting recognized on Superspeedway tracks. Daugherty said:
"You win that race and you realize that coming into that, teams like mine and the smaller teams, that's the only time we really get talked about is when you come to Daytona, Talladega. And one time that anyone ever recognizes or gives you any type of respect is when you go to these races that superspeedway races. So, you know, you win one of these things. It's hard." [0:26]
Despite having "dog days," Daugherty believes a win like this makes it completely worth the wait. He added:
"There's some long hard days. There's some dog days for small teams. But days like yesterday make it completely worth it 100%." [1:20]
NASCAR will next return to action for the road course event at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 13 for the final race of the Round of 12.
