Erik Jones recently shared a heartwarming video remembering his father after receiving the 2024 Comcast Community Champion of the Year award. The 28-year-old opened up about building a 'legacy' through his foundation while empowering lives.
The Legacy Motor Club driver launched the Erik Jones Foundation in 2021 and it is broadly based on three pillars - reading, health, and compassion. An avid reader himself, Jones has focused on igniting children's minds towards reading and learning through it. Secondly, through the welfare of animals, and lastly, the early detection of cancer. With a history of his family struggling with cancer, this foundation has come out on a personal front for Jones.
In a post on X, the #43 Toyota Camry driver Jones shared an emotional video message after receiving the Comcast award. Reflecting on the proud moment and remembering his father, Jones in his award acceptance speech said:
"I mean, first thing I could think of just as my dad would be proud, you know, I think back to a lot of great moments with him and something we talked about a lot was, if we ever had the opportunity to be in a position in NASCAR to start a foundation and what that would mean and what it would be and it's a little different than probably what we thought but you know we're here and celebrating something that's a really big honor for us." The three-time Cup Series race winner also spoke about creating a 'lasting legacy' in the community which is inspired by his father and how he wants to do the same for his future kid.
"That can help shape his [Erik Jones' son] direction a bit in life, definitely my father did even before his diagnosis and him passing away from cancer. The philanthropy was important to him, he was definitely a donor in his life, it's how he met Bran our executive director and many other people in the philanthropic world. But it's something that definitely carries on his legacy day-to-day." [2:03]
Comcast honors personalities who work with NASCAR on charitable causes and hand out awards with monetary aid. This year, the Erik Jones Foundation was presented with this award along with $60,000 as part of the program's donation to the foundation.
Erik Jones penned a heartwarming post on his social media after receiving the Champion of the Year Award
Erik Jones has been a part of the NASCAR series for almost 10 years and is the first driver ever to win the Rookie of the Year award in all national series. While his achievement is not limited to the racetracks, the Cup Series driver became the Champion of the Year after being honored with the 2024 Comcast Community award for his foundation's amazing efforts in social welfare.
In a joint post on Instagram, Erik Jones shared a picture after becoming the 10th individual to receive this award. He wrote:
"So proud of the foundation team tonight. This is a huge honor and testament of the work put forth to the causes I truly care about! Thank you to Comcast for the recognition and to all who have supported us."
Not only Jones, but several NASCAR drivers, such as Joey Logano, Bubba Wallace, and Joey Gase, have been honored with this award for their exceptional philanthropic work towards society's welfare.
