The domestic violence charge against suspended NASCAR driver Gray Gaulding has been dismissed in Mecklenburg County, according to court records. And NASCAR fans are eager to see him back on the track. Gray Gaulding, who faced a misdemeanor domestic violence charge from an incident in April, saw the charges dropped in court last Thursday, July 25, with the case being "voluntarily dismissed," court documents showed.

Following the dismissal, Gray Gaulding’s PR team shared the news on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, updating fans and the public about the recent developments:

"Gray Gaulding's misdemeanor charge was dismissed by the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office on July 25th, 2024. Although we expected this case to be dismissed once all the facts came to light, it is a relief for Gray after months of uncertainty. We appreciate the public withholding judgement until we could resolve this issue. This was a just outcome to an unjust situation."

Back in April this year, Gray Gaulding was arrested by the Cornelius, North Carolina Police Department early in the morning, as recorded in jail documents. The native of Colonial Heights, Virginia, was released midday on his own recognizance, signing a written promise to appear in court.

Gaulding, who races part-time in NASCAR's Cup and Xfinity series, hasn't competed this season. Last year, he raced in one Cup event and 11 Xfinity Series races, achieving two top-10 finishes. He finished P8 at Talladega and P9 at Daytona's second Xfinity race, both times driving for team owner Bobby Dotter. Throughout his career, he has participated in 60 Cup Series races, with his highest finish being P9 at Talladega in 2017.

Part-time NASCAR driver Gray Gaulding's fight at Martinsville after the on-track clash

While Gray Gaulding has recently been cleared of his domestic violence charges, he's no stranger to controversy on the track as well. Back in 2021, after a NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Martinsville Speedway, emotions ran high leading to a scuffle. Former teammates Joe Graf Jr. and Gray Gaulding clashed following the race, sparked by a heated moment on the track.

The conflict began in the race's final stage when Gaulding nudged Graf’s back bumper, causing Graf’s #07 Chevy to spin and collide with the #23 car. Post-race, Graf approached Gaulding in the garage to discuss the incident.

According to Graf, who later spoke on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, an inflammatory comment from Gaulding turned their verbal exchange into a physical altercation. Graf admitted to throwing punches before the two ended up wrestling on the ground, prompting NASCAR officials to step in and break it up.

Gaulding later admitted his actions on the track were deliberate, stemming from an earlier race contact with Graf.
