In 2022, NASCAR introduced the Next-Gen 7 car with new technology and improved aero and downforce packages. The Next-Gen now uses an independent rear suspension with 5-way adjustable Ohlins TTR dampers. The traditional 4-speed gearbox is replaced by 5-speed Xtrac limited sequential manual transmission.

The traditional wheel design with 15-inch steel wheels with a 5-lug nut pattern is done away with for an 18-inch aluminum wheel with a single center locking nut to reduce time spent on pit stops. The Gen-7 cars are also equipped with a rear-facing camera installed above the driver's rear window, apart from the standard mirrors.

The Next-Gen cars use a naturally aspirated V8 engine under the hood that can produce a horsepower of 670 bhp in most races. The Cup Series races have three primary manufacturers - Toyota, Chevrolet and Ford. On average, these cars can go up to 200 mph and can go from 0 to 60 mph in about three seconds.

However, NASCAR has strict restrictions that every team has to follow before the race including the weight of the car. Every Next-Gen car has to be weighed before the race. The minimum weight is to be 3200 pounds or 1451 kg, without any occupant or fuel, and 3400 pounds (1542 kg) with the driver and fuel.

NASCAR Cup Series' next stop is Charlotte Motor Speedway

After a dominating run by Joey Logano in the non-points All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro, Cup Series drivers will be seen in action in Concord, North Carolina next weekend. For the 14th race of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series, teams are heading to Charlotte Motor Speedway where the Coca-Cola 600 will be held on 26 May.

The 1.5-mile oval track has a racing surface with 24 degrees of banking in the turns and 5 degrees of banking on the straightaway.
